Known electrical issues
wait your truck caught fire?!? I haven't heard of any serious electrical issues that have caused any fires. I had a slight electrical issue and it was a bad "MFS" Multifunction Switch but the dealer fixed it when it went out.
If your truck caught fire man...I'm sorry to hear that!

Havn't heard of any. 1st question is - have you added anything electrical to the truck? Guy at work burned one down to the ground by installing a bunch of "offroad" lights straight off the battery with no fuses. Chaffed some wires and had a carbque
No lights have been installed to my truck.Only thing electrical that had been installed on my truck was the head reast dvd players. Those were removed a few months ago, because they stopped playing.I know insurance should pay for another truck, but i hope they compensate payment for lift, tires, wheels, nerf bars, bull bar, fiberglass bed lid,etc...........more or less all of my accessories,i have all the receipts, and pictures...I will be going through h@ll for the next couple of months!
wow....I have never heard of this. I have heard of people lighting their trucks up from aftermarket installs but nothing from the factory...
Your head rest players where they factory or aftermarket? IF they were factory I would go strait to dodge. I would bypass the dealers even and go right to them. That way they can look into it and possibly issue a re-call if necessary.
Keep us updated, chances of the insurance giving you full payment are slim. At least here in alberta it will be. It also depends on the money put in too. I had a sound install done on my 07 and it was covered up to 2500bucks. Well I had pretty close to 6 grand in there so I asked for additional coverage. It cost me 15 bucks more a year :P. I don't know how it goes for lifts etc: But I hope it works out well for you...

The headrest dvd players were not factory, they were PowerAccoustics installed by a local shop. But the dvd players can't be the blame, because they were not even in the truck...They were removed like 3 months ago.

I would say a total loss,no repairs can be made.I just hope my insurance company is fair about this situation.I just want my truck replaced, and my siding replaced, and thank the Lord we are all ok.......
SO having said that all units will need new wiring. The ones that are not all in one units (just the screen) will need wiring back to the main deck. Those will just be audio cables only, so we need to worry about how the screen gets its power. Which in this case will NOT be just plugged into the deck and controlled through there. It will need to be run back to the fuse panel, and also run off a new form of ignition switch or 12V controlled source. Or at least this is the way that it should be done...
Now I don't know anything about your local shop that did the installation. But I do know some of them install aftermarket electronics with poor quality. They do it quick, make it look good on the outside, but when they are wiring they just splice into anything they can. I work with electronics installer, and the craziness of installing things in these new trucks are getting impossible. In fact he has even started charging more for some of the things he installs, just because he MUST run new lines. Its not as easy as finding a 12V source anymore and tapping into it. You run the risk of tapping into a source controlled by an electronic module. You run the risk of overheating/surging/whatever!, which can cause many issues.
For instance, I replaced my interior bulbs in my cab on my 07. Thought it was just pull the old one out, put the new one in. NOPE we had to install resistors to fool the computer into thinking the other bulb was still there. The truck would keep the other interior bulbs on just on a lower brightness to signal the bulb was out. This ran my battery dead, and also did create some minor ECU issues. It was all sorted out after the battery died and reset the ECU. But this all came from just replacing a bulb, and it was on an 07! The electronics have further been upgraded, and whenever we do an install we just run a new power source right away and don't deal with it.
I would ask if someone could look into looking at what wiring was left, IF you can even tell :S. I would not be surprised if they just pulled the headrest players out and left all the existing wiring there.
