Service 4X4
Hi everyone, had to change my user name and PW so my other posts don't show. I have a 09 1500 SLT crew Hemi, coming up to 60,000 km, I had it in to the dealer other day for an oil change and to make sure anything still under warranty is ok. (found 2 leaking shocks) Anyway they told me that at 60,000 I need to have "4x4 service" Can someone tell me what exactly they mean by that as they want $460.00 to do this. The flushing of the brake fluid and power steering they wanted $270.00 for but a chain down the street will do that for $135.00.
Thanks for your help.
Cheers,
Thanks for your help.
Cheers,
I would assume that 4x4 service is changing the tcase fluid and front/rear diff fluids.
Flushing the brake and power steering is not a service that is in the maint chart and I've sure never done it on a truck.

Here is the service schedule from the '09 owners manual. Note that only inspection is required of the fluids, if not applicable, then you can wait. If you don't have the manual. PM me and I will email you a softcopy (PDF).
36,000 Miles (60,000 km) or 36 Months Maintenance Service
Schedule
❏ Change the engine oil and engine oil filter.
❏ Rotate the tires.
❏ If using your vehicle for any of the following: Dusty or off-road conditions. Inspect the

❏ Inspect the front and rear axle fluid, change if using your vehicle for police, taxi, fleet,
off-road or frequent trailer towing.

I bet they'll drain and fill your diffs.. And t-case... That's probably it. I did mine the other day for under $100 using mopar atf for the t-case and valvoline syn-power to the diffs. Took me just over two and a half hours shooting **** with a buddy and drinking some beers.
Hi guys and thanks for the replies, the filling of the diffs and t-case was what I was thinking also. Pedro, thanks for the manual i have it and read what you wrote, but at dealer they put on my invoice "declined factory recommended service" I think it is just a cash grab, but don't want things to go awry, and be on the hook.
They can't deny your warranty if you don't do the service at the dealer... If you do it yourself with products that meet the requirements of the recommended fluid you'll be alright. Just save your receipts.
It's a money grab. They write that down to scare you but also to keep metrics for the service writer. The service writers get a salary and also get a piece of the action when they sell extra services. The service writers bosses pound on them to sell up, so the poor writers protect their asses by documenting that you declined the extra services. They can recommend all kinds of things but the only thing that matters as far as warranty goes is that you do the required maintenance and do not "neglect' the truck.

My t-case was really clean at 33,000 when I did mine... My diffs were a little dirty..but it didn't look bad at all..I actually need to post a pic of something I saw in there that made me raise my eye brow a little bit.
