It sounds like the ST/Express versions without EVIC will say eco or eco on. The other versions with the EVIC display will say nothing or eco.

Case closed.

Don't know what "EVIC" is and if I have it or not??

I did play with the ECO button again this morning and as I thought, the "ECO" is always displayed (??) even if I stomp on it. I guess it is to remind you that is the mode the display is in. "ECO on" shows when light throttle or coasting after a stomp. Doesn't seem very useful?

It's all in the owners manual. The EVIC is found on the premium instrument cluster whereas the base cluster has a one line display. The ECO tells you when you are driving in a fuel efficient manner. I guess Chrysler feels some people need that feedback.

That would be so annoying to have a light appear everytime your taking it easy. Would bother me to death! I never understood why guys wanted to add an MDS light to their 3rd Gens for the same reason. I'm always eyes on the dash using the corner of my eye! If the oil pressure dropped without a warning light or chime I would know. Just became a part of me when i did a few years of trucking I guess.

It's not a light, it's just an indicator on the instrument cluster's LCD display. If one doesn't want to see it then you just set the display to show something else. The ECO indicator doesn't tell you if the MDS is kicking into 4 cylinder mode, it's just letting you know you are driving in a fuel efficient manner. Nothing to do with MDS really.

I drove truck 14 yrs myself. Its NOT a light, just 3 little letters ECO (At least on my 2012 1500) Unless you look for it you don't even see it. And yes, I DO find it helps make me more conscious of my driving habits. And I'm 63 with 45 yrs driving exp, 14 of which were tractor Trailer.

Electronic Vehicle Information Center or the LCD display between the speedo and tach on the premium instrument cluster.
