I'm taking my truck in to the dealer to have the radio and uconnect module replaced. At least that's what I'm going to demand.

I'm not doing anything wrong. My buddies truck (2012 2500) works fine. I paired his phone (LG smart phone of some kind) and my Droid 4 and they both work fine with the contact list. His phone will not pair with my truck and work with his contact list.

So my pairing procedure is good.

The following are the action items the dealer is going to get.

1. Contact list isn't being uploaded each time the radio is turned on.

2. Contact list cannot be permanently uploaded to the radio via the "phonebook" command. It says, "file contains invalid data", whatever the heck that means?

3. VR reception is poor at best. Sometimes it can't distinguish between "Yes and No"

4. Radio isn't transitioning between active phone devices with various priorities. I.E. phone 1 is priority 1. phone 2 is priority 7. I leave phone 2 in the car with radio on. Bluetooth couples with phone 2. I return to the car with phone 1. Radio is not recoupling with phone 1 with a higher priority. (phone connection isn't the same as streaming music data from a given device aka phone) You can have the Radio coupled for phone use with phone 2 and have streaming music connection with phone 1 at the same time.

5. Radio only recognizes iPod in glove box USB port about 50% of the time requiring me to unplug/replug device.

6. Front USB port will not load standard music files to HDD. .wav, mp3 etc.

I'll advise more as things progress.

For all the bells and whistles this radio/vr/bluetooth system is supposed to accomplish, I must admit it really falls short of the mark. Mitsubishi certainly didn't impress.

Let me know what they have to say, I still have doubts about the module being bad. To have 1 section of SW being defective would be quite odd.

1) You mentioned leaving the vehicle with the radio on and phone #2 in the vehicle, it doesn't return to phone #1 when you come back to the vehicle. If I am understanding you correctly, it won't. There has to be a change in the state of ignition cycle. What I mean is that if the key is on and the radio playing, Uconnect will pair up to phone #2 when you leave the vehicle. It will stay connected to phone #2 until the ignition key is turned off and then back on (with a about a 30 second gap between the cycle).
2) YES, you can have phone #2 connected and have the streaming audio from #1 being played. Because when you select phone #2, you are only selecting the Hands Free profile. You are not selecting the Bluetooth Streaming Audio profile also. The only way to have both profiles operating is to turn the BT off on phone #1 or to select it from the "device" menu.
3) you don't say what iPod you have and the SW version.
4) I haven't seen the radio not download music off a thumb drive. What steps are you going thru? Maybe something happened when you had the accident.

Edited 12-4-2012 to add a couple of questions:
1) I was just rereading your earlier post about the accident, you mentioned about "Dial outdoor kitty". This is the wrong VR command, It needs to be "call outdoor kitty" not "dial".
2) I had thought that I asked this question also but I didn't see it. If you press and release the Uconnect phone button and say "phonebook, list names" when she asks for a name to start from, say "all". What happens?
3) Press & release the UC phone button and say "recent calls" when asked say "outgoing", what happens?

Which radio do you have? There should be a 3 digit code on the bottom right corner of the radio faceplate.

Post Instructions to Hard-Reset Dodge Computer - Resolves Most UCONNECT Problems

I've had a problem where my UCONNECT simply stops working, and the only solution was to "Hard-Reset" the computer on the car.

Specifically, my mobile phone stopped connecting with UCONNECT.

I've detailed the instructions on my blog, and this works for my 2006 Dodge Magnum. I understand this also works on Chargers, and really for that matter probably any Dodge or Chrysler that uses UCONNECT.
http://watercooler-blog.info/2012/12...-instructions/

I love my UCONNECT when it's working, but when it doesn't its just a huge pain in the..

Oh HEY! I just noticed your edit here. I'll go try your suggestions. BRB in 5 minutes.

**** ME TO TEARS! Unbelievable. I can dial out with my contact list if I say the word "CALL". It has dialed out properly twice in the last month or so using the command word "DIAL". hahahaha But other than that it will come up with useless alphanumeric nonsense. Dial Wicked Witch will equate to 048#9 or something like that. Call Wicked Witch connects me with "she who shall not be named" straight away.

When I don't provide voice prompts, she says;

"Available options are: Call, Dial, Redial, Phonebook, SMS, Recent Calls, Emergency, Towing Assistance, Setup, or Tutorial" So I should have been able to use the command word "Dial". I've never used the command word "Call" before. "Redial" does work. But at this point, since I can use the command word "Call" I take what I can get and keep on motoring. YAY!!! Miso Happi now!

When I say, "Recent Calls". She asks for "missed calls, incoming calls, outgoing calls" In any of the afore mentioned categories she will audibly list both discrete phone numbers AND NICKNAMES!!!

When I ask her to list all names in phonebook it displays all the contacts on the radio display and audibly tells me who my contacts are as either discrete numbers or nicknames.

When I say "Phonebook, Download", and send the file from the Droid 4, she says,

"Entry contains invalid data, Please try again."

Any idea what this may mean?

My iPod is old school. 2nd generation Nano 8GB

Model #MB261LL Version 1.1.2 PC

Yeah disconnecting/reconnecting the iPod is getting old. I'd rock a new iTouch with bluetooth but with bluetooth I'd lose onboard control of the device wouldn't I? At least that's the experience with the 3 iTouches that I've played with. I need handsfree mobility. I don't want to be playing with the iPod as I go even though bluetooth thus far is a guaranteed means of connection to the radio that has never failed, unlike my USB port.

The truck hasn't gone in to the shop for formal work yet. I'm having warranty work done to the headlights and some tweakers tried breaking in so the drivers door/door handle surround require replacement as a separate claim. Their techs haven't yet gotten their hands on my demon mistress who lives in my radio/uconnect system.

So why did Mitsubishi set up the radio to where it will reconnect in a descending priority mode when it loses connection with each higher device but not allow the reverse? Disappointing. I'd always thought that if you had multiple active devices in the truck at the same time the radio would multiplex them based on priority.

Rex,

The owners and user manuals can be found at the link below. Just enter the year and model of your vehicle and download.

You can also visit the Uconnect website at the link below.

Well that's great news. Glad you were able to get it going.
1) On the sending of your contacts, are you trying to send several at a time? If so then Uconnect will only accept 1 at a time. Also what location is the phone # in (ex: work, mobile etc). Uconnect won't accept email addresses either. "invalid data" could be any of these. (to start with)
2) on the ipod, I'll have to see if I can find one of those older nanos. I remember having an oldie at home somewhere. I'll look around.
If you did step up to a iTouch, it can be used on the docking cable also so you would have HF control. Yes, you are correct about having limited control thru BT streaming on the iPod.

Uconnect is accepting 1 at a time. Good grief! It's gonna take a long time to enter ~300ish contacts.

So I entered my "Wicked Witch" contact hoping the SMS feature would begin to recognize who the texts are coming from. I text her and told to text me back something. Uconnect still failed to discern who the text came from. I remember telling Uconnect not to access text messages the last time I paired the Droid 4. Do you have a slick way to turn this feature off, post pairing?

I'll go through "Setup" again and see. "SMS" only generates or receives messages.

"Dial" works fine for discrete phone numbers but not nicknames/contacts. "Call" works for either.

I am confused a little by why you are trying to input your contacts to Uconnect. All of your contacts should be downloaded with each ign key cycle. If you had added or deleted any contacts then the library will be updated.
1) The Uconnect will support up to 1,000 contacts with up to 4 contact numbers. They must be stored in slots "work, home, pager or mobile" any other slots will no be recognized.
2) The Uconnect internal phonebook that you are manually downloading to will only support up to 32 contacts with 4 contact numbers in the same slots listed above.
3) I use the internal PB for names that I may say differently than how Uconnect would say the name. Ex:
My wife's name is Kala (pronounced by humans as "Kala" with a Hard "K" and "A". However by a computer her name is pronounced as Calla. Say when I say "call Kala" Uconnect (and other car kits) doesn't recognize the name. I has had to on several occasions go thru and listen to how a name is pronounced. There are methods that a computer system will pronounce words depending on how letters are followed by vowels or consonants. I don't know the exact rules but they are used by computerized systems.
4) Does your wife appreciate being called "wicked witch"? Mine would shoot me then fly off.
5) The problem with CDMA networks (Sprint, Verizon & other phones that don't use a SIM card) is that they don't send the senders ID when a message is sent. They seem to always say something like "Unknown number". I haven't fully figured out why this happens but I have noticed that SIM card phones (T-Mobile & ATT) seem to always send the SMS senders ID with the phones that do support MAP.
6) In order to "accept" the messages, you'll need to do a fresh pairing of the phone, which means that you'll have to delete Uconnect from the phone as well as the phone from Uconnect.
Hope this information is helpful.
