True ! If your radio does not have SAT, and it is NOT SAT ready, then you cannot just put an antenna on it and get SAT.

Default New radios might be a step backwards

I have a 2014 Ram Big Horn with the 5.0 uConnect radio and have an extremely short list of complaints, the main one being the radio. I had previously owned a 2010 Ram Big Horn with the RES radio. That radio performed flawlessly.

The new radio in my 2014 leaves a lot to be desired. The AM receiver is terrible. It is very weak and I get ignition static on it. We have a 50,000 watt station in Rochester, New York, that fades out regularly just 15 miles away from the transmitter. When I was a kid I could hear WLW in Cincinnati at night on a crystal set!

I get quite a few drop outs and "Acquiring Signal" messages with the satellite receiver that I never experienced with the RES on my daily drives and in places the RES worked flawlessly.

FM is fine.

Technician says it has the latest software update and that's as good as they get.

Still like my Ram, but the radio seems to be significantly outclassed by the rest of the truck.

So, billdon1959, let me get this straight, you may have a way to install an aftermarket or Ram type CD player due to a harness??? 1) How do we know if we have the harness under the drivers seat and 2) please tell me more. I have the 13 Ram 1500 Express with the 3.O RA1 radio and sat combination would love nothing more than a cd player

Bill, I have the RA3 radio in my 2014 and the factory installed CD player in the console. The harness on mine does not connect to anything under either front seat, but goes through the console and connects to another harness that comes from behind the instrument panel.

I've had two rentals in the last two years, a Nissan Versa Note and a Ford Focus. Both had flawless SAT radio reception and reliable backup cameras. My RA3 in my 2014 Ram has lots of SAT radio dropouts and the AM radio is the worst I've ever experienced. From what I'm hearing I'm glad I did not order the backup camera on my Ram!

Yes I have satellite dropouts on my RAM. The backup camera seems to work fine. My issue is that I have had to take the radio in 3 times for service 2 reflashes and a replacement.
