Any updates from the dealership? A failure the pinion nut recall would have fixed had it been implemented by now?

I'm sure it was improperly reassembled the first time.

What did they replace the first time? As I recall you lost a pinion bearing badly enough that the pinion was flopping and they decided to just replace a couple bearings instead of the gearset? I would want some pictures of the ring and pinion if they are going to do that same stupid thing again.

Gees, that didn't take long. How many miles between both failures?

If Chrysler tries and implement a second repeat of the first replacement procedure, I'd be contacting Chrysler in regarded of suggesting a complete "new" replacement. I realize its not the cheapest route togo, however attempt number one failed, time to satisfy a customer.

My guess is whatever happened the first time, they just replaced the bad parts rather than all the parts. Anything happens in the rear diff spreads metal shaving around and damages everything. They did what..a visual and re-used old bearings i bet.
If the carrier bearing was new and failed, sounds like they didnt have the correct amount of preload.
You cannot blame Chrysler for inexperienced mechanics, but instead the dealership for not schooling the mechanics well enough.

All these diff failures are solved with an aftermarket carrier. Dodge 1500 series carriers suck.

first time pinion bearings/races were replaced
second time, carrier bearings, ring and pinion, pinion bearings, the whole internals

all i know is im tired of an unreliable truck. i cant depend on it to go anywhere for risk of something breaking.

i did hear a real loud high pitch whine as soon as i got it out of the shop for the second repair though. dealer said it should go away when the bearings break in

You shouldn't be getting a whine - bearings breaking in? Seriously?
