Dodge is definitely serious about leading the market in pickup trucks. 8speed transmissions, grill loovers, air suspension to lower the vehicle and drag. It will be interesting to see how Chevy and Ford follow.

A lot of new systems on this truck, stop start, electronic steering, louvers, electronic shift, lots of stuff to go wrong, but I have faith in Dodge and I can extend the warranty to five years, or lose the truck, if it starts having chronic problems early on.

Do we really NEED all these new bells and whistle`s...??? Just more problems to own.
And if you eliminate the EPA, you eliminate the MPG war`s that are killing these trucks.

I decided to get the 4.7 and not wait because I didn't know how I would like all the new bells and whistles. BTW, the current transmission is technically a 6-speed but effectively its a 5-speed. It has 2 second gears that are close in ratio. Not sure why in the world they did that.

Just my opinion, but "bells and whistles" to me are stuff like power/heated front seats, heated steering wheel, remote start, 20" chrome wheels, power rear window, uconnect 8.4 alpine premium sound, the list is endless, the heavier the vehicle the more fuel it burns....

The new pentastar V 6, and eight speed transmission,[allows the engine speed more time in lower RPM] louvers, stop start, four corner air suspension, are all designed and integrated to save on fuel, while still providing enough HP and torque to pull a small trailer or haul some drywall and 2x8's.

My guess is the cost of operating/maintaining the truck over the course of its usefulness will increase. That's what its about for me, saving a few bucks at the pump.

i have a 2001 dakota V6 auto trans, came with a 3.55. it got such bad MPG i just got mad and had a 4.1 put in. i drive only in town, my MPG went from 8-9 to 13-14. if the V6 was under-powered for my dakota in a Ram it WILL be under-powered. but the V6 is a very good engine

I can certainly relate to what you are saying here regarding the 2001 as I have a 2000 1500 with the 5.9. I do not think it is a fair comparison though as the 3.9 in the 2001 Dakota was rated at 175 HP and 225 Ft Lbs of torque, which is 130 HP and 40 Ft Lbs less than the current 3.6 puts out. Not to mention a totally different transmission. I still think people should drive it to determine for themselves and look forward to Rhyster's assessment of his new trucks powertrain.
