Haven't seen one yet but my thoughts are with that much weight and bulk and with the lack of aerodynamics you will be way underpowered and won't see any advantage to going with the 6 cylinder. If you are in a flat area and always drive moderately without towing or hauling a load you might see some but doubtful.
Good luck.

Just took a test drive in one the other day, and was pretty impressed. It is not a Hemi but then again I didn't expect it to be.

If you are not into drag racing and don't expect to tow 9,000 lbs, I don't think you could go wrong.

Trout,

I have seen much opinion out on the forums regarding the 3.6 Rams. Mostly from people who have never driven one because they are just now starting to show up in the dealerships in any type of significant numbers. My best suggestion to you would be to find a dealer in your area with one on the lot and drive it yourself to decide if the truck has enough power for you and your needs.

So let me get this right....... you have a Ram 1500 4x4 CC and are looking at getting a new Ram 4x4 CC or EC........ the only real change being a smaller engine?? Did you buy your 09 new and get the lifetime powertrain warranty?? If you did I'm not really seeing the advantage of getting rid of it. Best of luck to you.

Hope you`re not going to use it to tow or haul anything with it, you`ll be very disappointed.
Its a great truck if you like to hear it hunt for gears all the time too.
This new V6 truck finds itself rev`ing ALOT, it cant decide what gear to stay in...!
I drove 4 so far, did NOT like any of them.

300hp used to be a lot for a V8. Now you have a V6 with 305 and an 8 speed automatic...

Will it tow like a Hemi or Cummins? Not a chance. Will it out run and outpull a 90's V8 and get better mileage unloaded? Quit possibly. 1500's aren't exactly towing machines anyway, anything more than a small boat or ATV/snowmobile trailer, I'd have to say step up to the 3/4 ton.

I haven't driven one yet, but that 8 speed makes all the difference in the world, low 1st gear for low-end "umph" and high overdrives for good mileage on the highway

JA, I did buy it new, it is paid for and we always trade for warranty purposes. as of today it has 24,000 miles on her.
LU2, all i haul is my fishn' boat that weighs in at about 2000 lbs.

the truck is mainly used for traveling and hauling the boat. i am definately going to test drive the 6 before we purchase a truck.

24,000 miles on an '09? Man, that is just barely broken in....My last payment is due this week on my '09. No way I am trading in for several more years. Not with a lifetime powertrain warranty. Of Course I have had several offers from Dodge dealers to outright buy it back from me.....No way Jose. Certainly not to down grade to a 6 cylinder, when I have the roar of my Hemi out my Mufflex Muffler....BTW I tow a 4,000lb car trailer and race car with my 1500 quite often. Never a problem in Tow/Haul mode.

OK, so let me get this straight. Your 09 has a lifetime powertrain warranty and a hemi motor.

You want to trade it in for a 6 cyl model that has no more than window dressing improvements?

Somebody is going to pay top dollar for your trade in (way more than you get in trade) and you get an anemic 6 cyl as a prize ...with dubius improvement in gas mileage.

I am not seeing the advantage here.
