Help with wiring in road lights...
Hi Folks
I have a 2012 Dodge Ram 3500 Diesel. I am putting on 4 Hella Ralley 4000 on a light bar. These lights I have converted to HID. I want to wire them in a 2 switches on the dash. One switch for each set of hellas. I need to tie them into the high beams so the come on and off with the high beams but are also controlled by the switch in the cab. The switch in the cab would just control whether the road lights would come an on at all and the high beam circuit would control when they would come on.
I can handle the wiring but does anyone know where the easiest place would be to tap into the high beam circuit. The high beam circuit would trigger the relay to take power direct from the battery to fire the lights.
Any help from someone knowledgeable would be appreciated.

I wouldn't tie them in. I would use an external circuit and switches to operate them. I wouldn't even tap in to a spare terminal spot in the IPM unless it's for the control side of the relay. The headlamp circuits are module outputs and I would not advise risking overcurrent. Those IPMs are pricey.
Yes that is exactly what I want to do. But they would also be on an independent switch as well so they could not be used if you didn't need them.

ever thought of tying in to the high beam wire on the actual headlight connector? You would be safe to tie into there and use that 12v to operate an external relay. Then in that wire you would run to your relay is where you would put your switch or switches.
If it were me wiring this is what I would do, your not risking over current on your modules. Ya relays don't take much current to pull and stay closed, but why risk it? Your headlight connector is on the output side of that module, so your not tying into the control portion.

Got it all done and everything is working great. Tied into the high beam at the headlight to trigger the relay. Puts out a lot of serious light. Now I shouldn't hit any moose. They should be well done by the time I get to them. Can burn the grill off a Kenworth at 400 yards.
Thanks for the help. Much appareciated.
