Default Flowmaster Direct Fit Kit?

I just recently purchased an 09 1500 w/ 5.7L with factory dual exhaust. I'm looking at my options for exhaust.

Does anyone have experience with this kit?
Flowmaster 817568 Direct-Fit Exhaust System for Dodge RAM 1500 5.7L V8 Engine : Amazon.com : Automotive Flowmaster 817568 Direct-Fit Exhaust System for Dodge RAM 1500 5.7L V8 Engine : Amazon.com : Automotive

Is it worth spending the money on direct fit or should I just get a "univeral" inlet/outlet matching muffler?

Also, what is this "exhaust drone" I keep seeing in threads?

don't get flowmaster....baffled mufflers and cheap...they rust out quickly very quickly. A lot of guys on this site use Magnaflow or Borla exhaust. I currently have the Magnaflow and I am 100% happy with it.

Ok, good to know. Thank you. I have been doing some more looking around on the Ram Tech here, as I'm new here, and I'm seeing a lot guys talking about the Mufflex kit. I'm leaning towards the 14 instead of the 80. From what I'm gathering the 14 is pretty moderate (in comparison to the delete pipe) and a good choice for a daily driver. Any other input is welcome and appreciated.

When the MDS kicks in you can get an annoying sound from after market exhausts. The factory exhaust is designed to eliminate most of that noise.

Out of curiosity, why are you replacing the exhaust in the first place?

Same reason anyone else does, I guess...Looking for a little more aggressive sound. I don't want anything overbearing. Its a daily driver and I'm growing out of my "MUST HAVE LOUD" stage in life...but I still can't stand factory.

Magnaflow flow really good and are stainless so they won't rust away. As mentioned above, MDS sounds awful with loud pipes. Kinda like a constant Jake brake.
If you have a programmer such as a Diablosport, you can turn the MDS off. You can also keep it off by driving in tow/haul mode, but your shifts will be delayed and 5th gear is disabled.
I personally like the way that my stock 3" single exhaust sounds on my 08. Kinda growls when you get on it.
I also have a Magnaflow cat-back that is louder, but sounds good without drone in the cab. I can change back and forth in under 30 min, so I change it back and forth depending on my mood. Now that I am only 4 miles from work instead of 40, the MDS doesn't help as much now, so I will probably put my Magnaflow back on soon.

I think you will be happy with a long Magnaflow. I am.
