Now they say Chrysler is not interested in AM radio performance. I need to test drive another another 2013 Ram truck and check the radio.

I am about ready to give up on American made trucks with such lousy service support.

This problem started with the first software upgrades to the 8.4" display/radio/nav. Sounds like computer software interrupts/updates happening.
Are you having any abnormal FM issues in addition? Not as pronounced as the AM issues.

My radio in AM on my 2013 Ram Sport is doing the same thing. I not only get static but it also sounds like electrical arching coming from the front speaker. Only does it in AM. I have the Alpine Surround System so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I'm going to have it looked at next time I'm at the dealership.

No FM Issues. I had some filter capacitor modification made to the engine fuel injecter wiring by dealer already.

Only other issue is finding the SD card. Sometimes I have to go to USB and back to SD card before it discovers the SD card. A software bug I can live with.

Electrical arcing is a good description. I think my front speakers may have been damaged when radio played loud and I was not able to turn volume down until engine and ignition switched off and exiting cab.

I also think that the equalizer setting is way over-peaked on AM. EQ Display is set flat (no HF peaking).

I am having another radio update done tomorrow 10-29-13. I will let you know if it made a difference. It will probably wipe out all my GPS destinations again.

Had another 8.4" radio software update Oct 29. Sounds like most of the crackling is gone. This would support my theory that it all started with the first software update this spring.

I hope those Italien High School kids hired to do the RAM 1500 computer programing are learning from their mistakes.

Default 8.4 inch Screen and Safety

Now that the AM Radio noise has been minimized I will mention the Safety concerns of this setup.

Having the climate controls on a touch screen is dangerous since you have to look away from the road for 2 seconds (multiple times) to see if the toutch screen responded to your touch. In another car, I can switch the temp control in 1 second with a manual-selecter switch. What happens when the radio/8.4" screen is dead? Including climate control in the 8.4" display is not good.

Another gripe: The 8.4" scrreen is setup so the person in the middle sees best. It needs a display with a wider viewing angle or a swivel towards the driver. I have no seat for a 3rd person in the front. Leaning over to see the display is also a safety hazzard.

I will make sure I never have this kind of setup again. Another gripe: When selecting a song from an album on the SD card; if you want to pick another song from the same album, you have to start from the top menu and navigate all the way back to the album you want (currently playing) cousing many seconds of safety distractions
