Thanks LU229...I agree. I laughed at the dealership when they told me that. Yesterday I spoke with the service manager who when he got back to me after consulting with some other "manager" he offered me the install at " cost"....$325 ! He said they will not make a dollar on the install....Ha-Ha! Hysterical....but it beats never having the confidence again in the Viper system and it's potential to kill the entire start system. I'd rather forego the 3 taps on the lock button for an additional remote.... knowing the dealer owns any possible future problems.

At $325, they`re still making a profit, you`re no fool, you know that as well as i do that they are still makin a profit. They`re just trying to lay the typical car salesman/dealership isnt makin money guilt trip on anyone that they can. Ther are thieves and suckers born everyday.

I tried to contact Viper...there is no way to talk to a Viper rep ! No matter. Just spoke with my aftermarket shop. They gave me the option of complete $300 refund or a new module with $100 store credit. I agreed to have them install a new remote start module and they agreed to also install a bypass micro switch beneath the dash. This way if for some reason this newer designed module also fails I can still start my truck....then go bust their chops ! I will use the store credit for some rain guards. Thanks Guys !

ps: I have a '68 hot rod...I'm used to all this trial and error performance mod stuff.....but after owning my darn brand new 2013 Dodge Ram ! First Dodge BTW. Had a Ford & 2 Silverados before this Ram.

That's the trouble you get buying aftermarket, were an oe would have been plug and play with no headaches, what you saved you spent in frustration.

Yup....had sticker shock at the time and tried to save money....not worth it on a brand new truck. My next mod is the dash mounted brake controller for trailer towing ......definitely.....will be dealer installed.

Hey LUU, I talked with a tech I know and had him check on a factory install remote starter, he finally got back with me, about $600 installed. LOL! Not even sure if its worth going in and trying to talk with them.

Well, I guess I'm going to be a sucker. Just ordered the factory remote starter system, and yes I'm paying between $550-600. The system itself isn't the problem, I can get one on ebay for $267 to my door, the dealer price is the same, it's the 3 hours labor that's the problem, $100/hr, and 3 hrs to install and flash.

My biggest problem is I just purchased the max care warranty, and any work that is not done by a dealership "might" void any coverages. Plus the -10 degrees windchill, and the mrs driving it to work, freezing her butt off, how they say that " When the Mrs is happy, everyone is happy" comes into effect.

I tried to deal with several dealers, even the one I bought the truck from, and all were the same $600 range. So we bit the bullet, hopefully installed without any problems. I did also check on fobs, and yes, 2 are included.

Default 2013 Dodge Ram Remote Starter Issues

I bought a 2013 Dodge Ram a month ago, I negotiated a remote starter in the sale. The dealership installed an aftermarket remote starter. After 2 weeks of having the truck I experienced several electrical issues. Lights on dash, radio and headlights fading in and out constantly. AC doing anything it wanted to do, on, off, full blast, normal. Locks malfunctioning. I brought it to a different dealership and they diagnosed the problem, 2013 Dodge Ram is not compatible with a aftermarket remote start. Remote start has to be factory. Does anyone have any input on this???
