Is it sucking or blowing? If it is sucking in air I would think it should go to the filter box as you would not want to be sucking in dirty air to anything. If blowing I would think it would go to the intake to get sucked away into the exhaust system or somewhere. I doubt it should be left open like that for water intrusion...

Yes sir Steak, I did look in the service manual the other day when I saw this, and I think it's a vent hose routed up to the engine compartment. It looked different on the end, but that's typical of manual pics.

Transfer case vent (3)
Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) (5)
Fresh air makeup (4)

Wife's 2011 Grand Cherokee with the 3.6 has the same hose. Doesn't go anywhere. Found it the first time I ever changed the oil and thought it was strange. Dealer told me it was normal.

If you trace the line back to the air filter, air box than I suspect the missing link is for the hemi, as air box's are identical ( older v6 and 4.7 5.7) used the same air box.

Thank you both for the info....

I suspected as much, just thought it a rather odd way to make a vent line...

The penny pinchers definitely won that vent line argument....
