x2 Same here. They said it didn't need anything so they put a retainer on anyway. Seems like a band-aid fix.

I dropped mine off yesterday for the recall and I got a call this morning saying that a complete recondition was necessary. Service guy said they didnt have the bearings but would be able to get them on Tuesday. My truck has 92K on it and the rear end has been as quiet as can be. I had even thought about not taking it in just because I figured something would have happened by now if there was a problem. Really glad I took it in!

I called the Chrysler owners helpline about the recall. When I gave them my VIN, they told me my truck was not subject to the recall, even though it's a 2011 RAM 1500 with the DRN rear code. Anyone else had this happen?

2010 Ram 1500.......when I bought the truck with 70,000 kms on it 2 months ago.....I had the local dealer run the VIN for me.

That was the first I heard about this N08 recall. Incidentally....I was at the dealer to book an appointment to check out a whine in the rear end.

Turns out the recall had not been done and I needed a complete diff rebuild.

Solved the problem for 2 weeks and the whine is back. I use my truck for work and have had the busiest month EVER so I have not been back yet.

I almost hope the diff explodes once and for all.

It is shameful how long RAM has had these diff issues......my '08 had the diff done twice!

nobby,

I'm sorry to hear the whine has returned.

It would be of benefit to notify the Service Dept. and the Service Manager if the issue has not been resolved.

Also, keep an eye on your PM inbox.

So....here I am again. Is it me? I mean seriously?

My GEN III diff was replaced twice within 3 months under 90,000kms and now my GEN IV is sitting at the dealership at this very moment waiting for a second replacement under 80,000kms.

WTF?

But....not to bash the whole truck....I do love it. It is THE best truck I've owned for performance, towing and sex appeal...if you can say that about a truck.

I just wish they could put a decent diff in it, already.
I've got 4 months and 20K of warranty left .....I'm going to have to hit them up for an extended on the diff. I sure don't trust them anymore.

Was it rebuilt or replaced with a new diff ? if rebuilt possibly was not done properly by the service techs.

Well, rebuilt.

Quite possibly you are correct. But that doesn't explain the first failure, does it?

2 rebuilds on my GEN III and today I picked up my GEN IV after the second rebuild.

You would think that if the tech was screwing up....that they would do something about it.

Anyways....everything is not peachy....let's see how this one goes.

I gotta go back tomorrow and talk to the manager about extending the warranty on the diff.

I had a chat with the service manager today. very accomodating and sympathetic to my issues.

He has offered to bring in my truck for a road test and open up the diff for a look see 1 week before the warranty expires on the dealership's dime.

And with all the history I have with the 2 Rams I've owned, he says that Ram will be pretty good about some Goodwill in the future if the need arises.

I'm happy with that.
