Default Post-recall pinion nut failure

My rear end locked up on Wednesday the 29th of August, causing a chain reaction that twisted my drive line in two and put a grapefruit sized hole in my transfer case. I was told that the recall on the pinion nut had been handled before I bought the truck. I am convinced that it was that failure that caused the calamity. Is there anyone else that has had it fail after being "fixed?"

If they have records of it having been done, they should be able to tell you exactly WHEN it was done, and show you documentation. If they aren't willing to do that, time to talk to a lawyer.

Bumping an old thread with the same issue. Had a leaking pinion seal fixed at the dealership and within 250 miles my rear end is howling. Brought it back in and am awaiting the diagnosis. 2011 Truck with only 81k. Might get ugly… dealership asked if I ever changed the rear fluid… I said yes (which is true)… and they said “Ok dodge may want to see receipts”.
will know more Monday hopefully. I remember the job well for a dumb thing I did… after I dropped the cover, cleaner it all out, reinstalled it went to refill the diff I noticed the diff has a drain plug. Duh. Didn’t need to get into the cover R&R mess!
What is the recommended time/mileage interval anyway for rear diff fluid?

I had my differential go bad after having the pinion seal replaced. If you don't get that pinion nut back on just right it will cause problems. I just ended have a driveline shop replace everything.

Does anyone here know a reason why the 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 was not including in the NNTSA 13V-038 recall regarding the Pinon Nut recall. I own a 2008 and am also in the car business and we sold an 08 to customer who just experience the lock up of his rear end and spun out of control. Surely this is considered a Safety issue. Any ideas on how to report it? Thanks for your time.

Did you run or have your local dealer run for any outstanding recalls or RRT? The reason maybe because the problem they were having started in 2009. Send me a PM with the last 9 of the vin and can check for you.

I did run the recalls myself and it does not show up. My concern is that this problem does affect the 2008 Ram 1500s also and there is no recalls on the 2008 for this problem. My VIN is: 1D7HU18248J243440. Thank you.

So I got an entirely new 3.92 ring, pinion, locking diff and new bearings installed under warranty. It’s quiet on accel, decel, and coast so far… so fingers crossed that’s the end of it.

Keyserroll the report shows all recalls have been performed. The last one was the wiper motor recall. I didn't see any recall for the pinion nut.

I understand that part thank you. My original question was why wasn't the 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 included in the pinon nut recall in the first place. There seem to be a problem with the 2008 also and Dodge isn't doing anything about it.
