Are you planning on any head, camshaft mods...? If not, headers and CAI is really wasting your time and money. The stock air box is actually superior to MOST aftermarket CAI`s. You can check out all the info within this forum, alot of guys have pulled the aftermarket CAI back off and put the stock air box`s back in. Most usually see their MPG`s go backwards with aftermarket CAI`s.
Thats reason enough NOT to live in libturd california.
It would be nice to believe a K&N CAI "could" contribute 17 extra ponies. Unfortunately, those statements are very misleading, as are most aftermarket performance modifications.
K&N gains, if any, are typically rated at the top of your power range. Realistically suggesting that you would need to run full throttle at 5-6 grand on your tack, which usually isn't ideal or realistic for an almost 6k lb. truck, especially suggesting a stock intake manifold is only rated witH a max CFM rating.
I've got nothing against CAI systems, I had a K&N 63 Series on my '09 Ram Sport, but I certainly know it had absolutely no improvement with mpg's, or performance gains. I just wanted a few more decibels o2 of the engine compartment, lol.
