"wrong key fob" error
I have a new 2013 Ram 1500. I do not have power locks or windows and therefore no key fob. I have a regular key that has electronics inside I assume. Now for the second time I am stranded because the key will not work. I get the error "wrong key fob". The first time it happened the dealer fixed it. That was about 6 weeks ago. Today it happened again. My spare key works for now. Has anyone had a similar problem.

I just recently purchased a 2013 Dodge Ram single cab with manual locks and windows from a delership. After 4 months of ownership I drive to the job site to work and had to move my truck after being ther for 20 minutes. The truck would not turn over, crank, nothing, and so I tried disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes, again nothing. I towed it to the dealership and they replaced the ignition switch that they said went bad. 2 weeks later I go to wash my truck, vacuum it, then get back in to drive into a car wash bay. I turned the key and nothing happened and then got a "wrong key fob" message on the console. Once again towed it to the dealership and they said the key went bad????? They also said that ther were supposedly 5 other keys programmed to my ignition switch/ truck. They ordered a new key and programmed it with my truck. One week later ( yesterday), the same thing happened after the day was over when I was going to go home, "wrong key fob". Thankfully this time they are towing it at their expense because this is just really starting to get very frustrating. I work in a radius of 40 miles at most because the area is spread out. I cannot be dealing with problems like this every week. I need to trust and rely on my transportation. Any help would be grateful Dodge.

Is your truck at the dealership now? I'd like to make sure we have record of this on our end--we can open a case for you and follow up with the dealership. Please send a private message with your VIN if you're interested in having us become involved!

Well you can add me to the list of people who have been stranded due to the wrong key fob error. I have had 3 different key fobs fail on a used 2014 ram 1500 that I purchased from the dealership. I have paid for towing and "repair" three different times and do not want to do it again. In one of the cases I was 200 miles from home and the nearest dealership that could help me (I travel quite a bit in rural Alaska). Did anyone have any luck getting to the bottom of this issue? I could see it becoming a safety issue if it fails in the dead of winter, and it would be nice to have some sort of "bypass" around this error to be able to start the vehicle if needed.
Hello All,
I had this problem occur again approximately one year ago and was, once again, sold another key.
I had some free time on my hands and decided that it was time to get to the bottom of things. So, I asked to see the general manager. I followed him around town from one dealership to another
and didn't leave until I had an opportunity for a conversation with him during which he agreed that THIS WASN'T NORMAL!
He tried to pass the buck on to another employee, but I persisted and after 2-3 visits to the dealership, they figured out that I wasn't going to go away without a better solution. I was always polite and patient, and
was also fortunate that one of the service technicians recalled me, my truck, and my key problem from 2-3 prior visits.
They decided to replace the WIN module (aka WIN switch) which is apparently a wireless receiver that gets a signal from the key and then tells the vehicle to start.
That was done on Dec. 27th of last year and I haven't had a problem since. I still carry around the spare key, but I am very hopeful that I will never need it again. (They also refunded the cost of the last key that I purchased.)
Best wishes to all of you and please don't get stuck out in the middle of nowhere!

Greetings! I just joined to share this fix.
My son had this problem this morning (12-31-2019) with his 2015 RAM 1500. He started the engine remotely, let it idle a few minutes, then got in and inserted the fob. Engine stopped running and the computer showed "Wrong Fob." I removed the fob and the error changed to "key in ignition." He put the fob back in and the error went back to "Wrong Fob." He has no spare. Door locks still worked from the fob. Figuring the vehicle computer was at fault he rebooted the computer and that fixed it!
How to reboot the computer? Open the hood, disconnect the vehicle battery, wait 30 seconds for electrical charges to bleed off the circuitry, reconnect the vehicle battery. Have a nice day!

This same issue is happening to me. I have a 2014 ram 3500. It happens on and off. Sometimes it will start, other times it gives me the error message. Has anyone figured out a solution? I'm afraid that I'm going to get left stranded somewhere.
My 2016 had the "wrong fob" issue, regardless of what key I used. I just bought the truck from a dealer about week prior. The truck had the fob reciever fail.

I own a 2013 RAM 1500 Tradesman which I purchased new in 2013. No power windows or door locks. Just a "smart" ignition key. Since then I've had seven "Wrong Key FOB" errors which locked up the steering wheel. Replaced seven bad keys so far. Two different dealers I contacted on this issue both said the old worn out "We've never seen this problem before". They don't have a clue of what the problem is and I don't expect anything out of them. I just learned to live with the problem. I never leave the yard without two good ignition keys with me and I keep a third in the house. It's not a matter of if the key will fail. It's when it will fail. When it fails I just hope the other key works to get me home. So far it has. When I get home I carry the key which was in the house with the good key which worked on the way home and then go to the dealer to get a third key. I always carry two keys with me and always have a third in the house. This time I actually have two good keys in the house along with five key blanks. Just being prepared in advance for the inevitable future.
