"wrong key fob" error
I'm don't know if a skim module is the same as an ignition node but in May of 2021 the dealer replaced what he called the "ignition node". This dealer was actually the dealer who sold me the truck. I had been going to another dealer for keys prior to this because the other dealer was closer to home. So this was the first time I went to this dealer since having the key problems. The other dealer told me that you can't re-program failed keys. This dealer claimed you can. In any case, he re-programed one of the failed keys I brought in along with two keys made from new key blanks. All keys worked before leaving the dealer. So I left the dealer with three keys- one re-programmed from a previous failed key and two new keys. He assured me that I would never have any key problems again and I wouldn't have to worry about carrying two keys. But I knew better than this. I carried two keys with me anyway and was using the key that was re-programmed. It wasn't a week later until this key failed. So I went back to this dealer to have a key made from a new key blank. I guess he felt guilty about telling me that the keys would never fail again so he only charged me for the key blank and not the programming. Then he went into this spiel that he had worked there for thirty years and had never seen this problem once. He asked if I lived near power lines or any possible source of electromatic radiation. I didn't. In March of 2022 one of the three keys failed, This time I went back to the dealer closer to home and had two new keys made. So I now had four new keys. Two I keep in the house and two I carry with me. At the same time I purchased three key blanks for future use. Do I expect to get failed keys in the future? Yes. Not if, but when. But this time I'm better prepared for it.
Hello All,
If you go back and look at my earlier post, you'll see that I had the WIN module replaced in late 2018. I have not had an issue again and feel sure that was the real problem - not all of the keys that I wasted money on. Heck - I don't even know if I still have the other spare key under the floor mat or not because I haven't needed it in so long. Go back to your dealers and get that module replaced. Good luck to all of you!

Crap! I have the same problem and after 3 years and 4 keys, another one bit the dust this morning. Three different dealers have told me that they had never heard of this problem. Needless to say, I don't believe them and suspect it has happened to a lot of folks.
This was my first and now possibly my last Ram truck. I have really liked this truck in every other regard but this problem makes it way too unreliable for me. I travel a lot and am often hunting, fishing or in some area where there are no services for many miles (even if I could explain how to get to me).

QUOTE=BLACKDOG;3090233]I have a new 2013 Ram 1500. I do not have power locks or windows and therefore no key fob. I have a regular key that has electronics inside I assume. Now for the second time I am stranded because the key will not work. I get the error "wrong key fob". The first time it happened the dealer fixed it. That was about 6 weeks ago. Today it happened again. My spare key works for now. Has anyone had a similar problem.[/QUOTE]

Exactly what I did …… disconnect battery for 15min … reconnected and showed signs of needing a jump.. jumped it and it started up .. then I bought a new battery and replaced it (battery was 6yrs old).. problem solved
