2013 Ram Hemi-Increase Towing Cap?
I have a 2013 Ram Hemi Sport, 2WD with, 6 spd MDS VVT trans and 4:10 gears. I believe it has only a 5,050 lb towing capacity f -rom what I have been able to find out. My problem is that my horse trailer weighs 7000 lbs. What can I do to my truck (short of trading it in for a bigger one) to make it capable of safely towing this trailer (which was a b'day present)??
Towing chart is here.... http://www.ramtrucks.com/assets/towi...wing.Specs.pdf
I assume you have the R/T model on the first page?
If yes then your pretty much out of luck. I mean, it will do it but not legally and not safely.

I wonder what is different with the R/T that causes the reduction in capacity? In general as the gear ratio goes up (3.21 -> 3.55 -> 3.92) the capacity goes up. Plus, the less weight of the truck itself (2-door vs. 4 door, short box vs. long box) the better the capacity is. The R/T with 4.10 gears is an anomaly to that pattern. Does it use a different transmission or some other key component that has been swapped for more performance and less strength?

The torque convertor they put in them, which is designed for launching like a car - not towing like a truck.
Only thing I've ever seen on it is in the Dodge literature where they call it a high stall convertor - which makes sense for why it performs better at the strip and why it would burn up towing anything heavy.
