To tune, or not to tune? (HemiFever)
I know, Sean was on vacation so I was just working with what I had. He sent me a custom 89 and 91 tune this morning so I've got those loaded up in my tuner. Next time I go out I will load up the 89 and take her for a run. As far as additional modifications, all I have is a flowmaster 44 muffler welded in. From my research, these trucks are pretty high flow already.
I would at the least suggest having a magnaflow y pipe welded in. The stock y is crushed together. Also....don't know if you have worked on one of these trucks before, but the stock manifolds are crap. I had a set of BBK shorties on my 06 truck a Magnaflow y pipe,it really freed up some power. The shorties I put on in my garage using nothing more than floor jacks and hand tools. It's the little things like intake and exhaust that make these hemis come alive, and the potential of the tuner will never be realized if left in stock form. People talk about these trucks being high flow but if you ever take a look through the stock cats and see the crushed Y pipe and the shi%$y log manifolds it's not very high flow to me. This may be high flow compared to some other brands exhaust, but not very good on Dodges part IMO. My advice is to add some parts and then see what happens to our high flow trucks. The funny thing is the muffler you took off probably flows as good as the one you put on. Magnaflows are the way to go for flow. Not chambered mufflers of any brand. Good luck with the tuner.
Hello i am somewhat new to this forum and was looking at a hemi fever tune either on the T1000 or the intune, but was wondering if anyone has had a canned or custom tune work fine in high elevation (I'm at 6800) and if a 93 performance tune would run with 91 octane here in colorado. I had a V6 f150 and had a custom tune but it was an 87 performance tune and I was told by the writer that 85 was fine but I told him 85 felt sluggish compared to 87 so he said use whichever felt better so I used 87. But just wondering if I would have to run a 91 tune with 91 or if I can do 91 octane with a 93 tune. Keep in mind our gas is 2 digits lower for elevation so example 91 here supposedly acts like 93 in low elevation. Thanks
I can't wait for the tune for 2015s to come out. Since I put the 18" Mufflex Magnaflow setup on, the MDS has become quite annoying (blatting like it's misfiring). I disable it by putting the trans in Manual Mode, but it's a bit of a pain to do that every single time you drive the truck.
i have an 09 5.7, these still had 5 spd tho, beside CAI, Exhaust cut offs & magnaflow, my truck is pretty much stock. I added a superchips Cortex & MAN!!!! Best Mod Ever! The best tune is the 93 tune, but since we only have 91 oct avail in SoCal, i stuck with 91 tune + tire size, and speed limiter is all i adjusted. it also has tranny torque managment, but i have no clue what im doing there, so i just leave that alone. Get the tuner, you wont be sorry!
