Default LED tailight upgrade?

Has anyone done this on a 4th gen yet? I had the Spyder LED tails on my 06' and the quality of them was better then factory. That and the light output was incredible compared to the stock bulbs.

Their seems to be three options for the 4th gens.

1. Spyder. $226.00
2. Recon $341.00
3. 14' Ram factory retrofit. $418.00

The quality all looks the same. The key word here is "looks". Unless the quality of Spyder has gone downhill i am not worried about them having had good success in the past. The factory Dodge versions i am sure are fine. Recon makes decent quality products, albeit a bit overpriced.

Just wondering if anyone has compared the overall light output of the three? I would prefer the Ram OEM versions i guess since they are in fact OEM. But the very detailed instructions show them being very far from "Plug and play". Their are multiple wiring harness mods that need to be done as well as mounting load resistors. While not out of my scope of abilities, the idea of paying almost $200 more (compared to Spyder, which you can install in 10 minutes for the pair with simple plug in installation) and having to spend what could easily be several hours doing the wiring does not seem worth it to me.

Thoughts?

I would go with the first one of the first 2. Retro fit is fun and looks good, but is it really worth it? You can get a quality housing with a warranty and it will be bright. Most aftermarket LEDs are great, Ive played with and installed many, comparable to OE and regular incandescent.

A friend of mine has the Recon's, and I can say that they are just as bright as the stock.

I have a 2000 Dakota that I've put led turn signals front and back. I'm getting the fast blink and wonder how to slow that down.

you need to get resistors, or a EP-27L. That is a flasher unit for LEDs on 97-00 dakotas

Big Texxan-Thanks again. Do I still need to keep the resistors that came with the light modules installed along with the EP-27L?

How about just a reverse light LED upgrade? Are there any reputable 921 LEDs in the 6k range?

What exact model LED bulbs are you using in the backup lights that you found to be super bright?? I have tried three different types of LED backup bulbs (including a Cree version which while it did light up road signs a block away, it did not throw any light down near the ground so it was worthless) and while they are all brighter then halogen when you were looking AT the backup lights, NONE through light as far back on the ground or as wide as the stock halogen bulbs did.

I guess it may be personal preference, but as far as i'm concerned, backup lights should light up the area directly behind your truck to be of any use. I am not concerned with lighting up an area 50' behind me and having a dark shadow for the first 20 feet.
