Default Mopar Catback w/ Drone Issue

Hello everyone! I purchased my 2013 Ram 1500 Laramie in October of last year and I truly love the truck. I have several mods as you can see from my list: AMP bed extender, Tri-fold bed cover, Mopar CAI, Mopar catback, Weathertech Digital Fit Mats, Weathertech Window Deflectors, Weathertech Molded Mudflaps, and Chrome Tubular Sidesteps. My biggest concern right now is an issue I'm having with my mopar catback. I love how it sounds when I get on the throttle, how it sounds at startup, and all that fun stuff. However, this weekend I went on my first trip since having the catback installed in which speeds we regularly at or above 70mph (roughly 2000-2200rpm) and I noticed a severe drone in the cabin. Even when I was just cruising at a constant speed without accelerating it almost sounded as loud as if I was accelerating. I've been trying to look around and see what people have to say on the forum but it is hard to search through so many threads with other things being talked about in them. Here's what I've come across so far: use a "j-pipe" (or mufflex drone suppression pipe), have the stock resonators put back on (I still have the original exhaust) but it seems like this would simply just lower the exhaust note, turn off MDS for which I would need tuner and that would more than likely void my warranty. I want to keep that beautiful deep throaty sound because that was the whole point of the mod but lose the drone or at least reign it in because it was pretty bad. What is my best option here?

I talked to a couple techs at the dealership I bought my truck from and they said that it is a known problem with the hemis but there is no solution. Had the parts department call Mopar and they said there is no solution. I see a ton of performance exhausts which use a J-pipe to help reduce drone for challengers, sports cars, etc. Hell Mopar even has one for the Viper as a performance part designed to reduce drone. Anyone try this on their ram with success?

Others might say different but in my opinion 99.99% of aftermarket
performance exhaust including mopar are going to Drone that's just fact.
There is a reason for them being so big and restrictive from the factory. It does its job as a muffler and muffles the sound. Many on here will claim
that their 14" or 18" muffler has no drone, its just not true.

My 24" Magnaflow drones like crazy at about the same speed. I'm curious to hear more about this J pipe, I've never heard of it. Now that its camping season, I am pulling my camper a lot and the added load makes it drone even worse.

I had a drone with my FlowMaster 40. I had the resonators cut off and replaced with regular pipe, and it seemed to help a lot. The resonators are at the ends of the pipes, next to the spare underneath and just before the chrome tips. I had the work done at a local shop and I think it only cost me about $20.

I think its also called a y pipe and Magnaflow sells them. I was looking into installing just this on the stock exhaust to see if there were any performance or mpg gains.

The only aftermarket drone free muffler I know of is a 26 inch long Dynomax SuperTurbo. I have run this muffler on my 06 with shorties, magnaflow Y pipe and high flow cats and it didn't drone. If your exhaust is nearly stock this muffler will quiet you down some but still leave a racy sounding engine without the drone found with many other aftermarket mufflers. Never heard of any J pipe before now

If you think you're drone is bad now wait until you try to tow something. It will damn near blow your eardrums out.

I have an 07 that came with some real short fake header sounding muffler. The drone was excruciating. I literally towed my camper with earplugs.

I've been through 3 different mufflers and had the magnaflow y pipe installed. I'm currently on a stock muffler from a 4th gen ram. The thing still drones, not as bad but still bad enough to make me grind my teeth everytime I hit that "sweet spot". In town driving became alot more tolerable but unfortunately I lost 3 mpgs when I went to this muffler. From 16 hwy unloaded to 13. From 8.33 mgg with the camper to 6.7mpg.

I never believed any of the aftermarket exhaust b.s. but I guess some do have an impact.

I don't think your mpg loss was due to that stock muffler. I have that same muffler on my 2014 and have gotten over 18 mpg towing over 2000 lbs....and it easily gets over 20 mpg not towing...so I'd look elsewhere for you mpg loss....IMO Like I said earlier...if you want the drone gone get the 26 inch Dynomax Superturbo and problem solved. I went through 7 different mufflers on my 06 before I found that muffler...and it works well, flows well and no drone

Any input for us with the sport duals in the rear? I was looking into the magnaflow y pipe for the stock setup.
