Options for good all-season tires (+ mud & snow)
I made the mistake of purchasing a second set of Goodyear Wrangler HPs for my 2010 Ram Big Horn. The HPs were quiet at first then developed very bad scalloping. In addition, I could never seem to find the correct tire pressure to get even wear. For my third set I bought the Firestone Destination LE2s. These were (very) slightly noisier, but wore evenly and gave me noticeably better traction in snow. I would judge the ride as just slightly harder than the HPs (I think they had a higher compound rating). By the time I traded the 2010, the Firestones has 28,000 miles and still hadn't reached their half-life. Tread wear measurements indicated that I should've gotten another 40,000 out of them. They were slightly more expensive than the HPs.

Yeah, no doubt, the HPs do suck for wear. I only received 32K on mine and they were worn enough to replace. If the factory puts them on you can bet they are there for cost not quality. The Silent Armor's on my 2003 were at 65K when I sold the truck and the buyer commented on how they had good tread.
My 06' 1500 (which i bought new) came with HP's. At 68k miles i replaced with another set of HP's. Their was so much tread life left i sold them each for $30 on Craigslist. Except one. Which was why i replaced them in the first place. I had a slipped belt in one of them. I then replaced them again at around 160k miles when once again, one of them slipped a belt. And once again, they had a decent amount of life left.
When i traded in my 06' earlier this year for my 11' 1500 i had the dealer put my 06's tires on my 11' since they had less then 10k miles on them.
I don't tow, don't race and never go off road. My car is an everyday driver in New England. We get heavy snow, lots of rain and heat. The reasons i have never gone with another brand or model of tire are as follows:
1. Tread life. Since i bought my 06' in 06' i have never replaced this model of tire due to tread wear. It has always been the slipped belt. Having to only buy 2 sets of tires in 160k+ miles on truck impresses me.
2. They are quiet.
3. They work great in the rain. I drive fast on the highway including in the rain and have never lost control. No hydroplaning issues.
4. Snow. While they are not fantastic in 2WD snow they will get me around in most cases before putting it in 4WD.
I am not against trying another brand or model. But i am scared to drop over a grand on tires i am not familiar with and then realizing they are worse then what i use now.

Since when is a 1500 a car?

Price was the reason I went with the HPs for the second set. They were the cheapest tire. Dunn Tire installed & balanced them for $148 each (set of 4). I gave them a second try because I originally thought I contributed to my tire problems due to lack of rotation. That wasn't the case with the second set as I got free tire rotation with the purchase. I should add that my 2010 had 20 inch tires. When doing research I found several others that had the same complaints as I in the 20 inch tires only. People with 16 inch tires thought they were great.

Got 72000 miles out of my original HP's. Don't go offroad or tow much. Only rotated them twice. Never understood how people were only getting 30k on these tires. They're not the greatest, but not that bad. Replaced with BFG long trail tour t/a. Was amazed how much smoother my truck feels on new tires.

They come apart/wear out if you put any weight on them. So if you use your pickup like a Camry and never put a load on the bed or tow anything then they probably work fine. They are a car tire.
