Options for good all-season tires (+ mud & snow)
Thanks guys, but I don't have any interest in the stock Goodyears, so let's drop that conversation in this thread, please. Feel free to beat the dead horse in a new thread though. :-) I mentioned in the original post that I wanted reasonably aggressive looking tread, along with actual mud and snow capability and decent tread life, all of which the stock HPs don't have. I owned them, I know how they worked for me. Like crap.
So far, the Cooper Discoverer A/T3 is probably the top contender. Looks aren't quite aggressive enough but the specs and price are good ($180/tire from Fleet Farm and/or price matched at Discount Tire). However, the 12.5/32 of tread depth is disappointing. Nitto Terra Grappler and the GY Duratrac are looking like contenders too. The Duratrac goes a little to the opposite extreme for aggressive looks with the tread up the sidewalls. If I had a bit of a lift and some aftermarket wheels they would be a great fit. The Grapplers only have 13/32 tread too, and I can't find the mileage rating on them. Going to LT tires seems like it would get me more tread depth, but at the cost of harsher ride, lower MPG, and more up-front cost.
Thanks,
Rob

Rob,
I know what you mean about LT tires. They usually wear well, though.
Looked at my Excel spread sheet I did when I was shopping tires. For your purposes the Michelin LTX A/T2 might be something to consider since I know someone who has them on their 4x4 and they speak very highly of them.
They have 14/32 tread depth, compound rating of 500, rated 60,000 miles, and have a load of 2365 lbs. The downside is they are expensive.
Be aware there are two LTX versions: M/S2 and A/T2.
I've owned five sets of Michelin tires on different vehicles and as far as I'm concerned the best tires I've ever owned. If I didn't own a truck with 20 inch wheels I'd probably go with Michelins. But Michelin 20s are VERY expensive.
Best regards,
Dusty
2014 Ram Big Horn 1500 Quad Cab 2WD, 5.7 Hemi, 8HP70, 3.92 LSD, factory dual exhaust, 20” wheels. Now at: 004200 miles.
Thanks Dusty. The LTX looks like it has good specs. And the price in stock size is higher than the others but not obnoxiously so (about $270 vs. most of the others around $220). Not the greatest look to this tire though. But I'll add it to the list of consideration. I have always heard great things about Michelin tires.

Rob, im running the 33x12.50 with no lift and just cranked bars.
What size do you want?
If your not going 33 the Duratrac may work well for you.
A lift on my 99 would be awesome. But im too cheap. Lol.
Unless your really opposed to that tire.
I just really like them.
Been buried to the frame pulling a Ram 1500 out and still drove out on my own. Left skid plate marks in the mud.
Blew me away.
Two foot deep snow drifts have stopped me but still got out on my own.
Just hit them harder and made it through.
Extremely quiet on the highway.
Quite literally they are unreal.

Installed Hercules Terra Trac II in late winter, wow what a difference from the Wranglers 10 ply on/off road. Very quiet for an aggressive tread, great in snow/rain/and dry pavement. I have these on my 2012 quad cab Outdoorsman. I would rate them as good as the Cooper AT3.
I'm using the 17's 10 ply - but you can get them in 20's

your tires are 275/60-20's ? which is stock if I'm not mistaken and the link above shows they do make them.
My Outdoorsman came with the 17's with 10 ply rating. I tow a 5th wheel 10 ply is the way to go and with Timbren suspension.
