why do you need to replace the entire system from the cat back..? the dul tail pipes flow plenty and are already stainless steel... why not just drop in a $200 stainless muffler and save $800...?

I don't know about yours, but my truck's stock tail pipes certainly ain't stainless, they're aluminized steel. Both the muffler and the tail pipes looked like hell, which was the main reason I bought the MBRP a few months ago. The tips were, but the pipes weren't stainless.

Also, at this point (after having tried both the MBRP and the Corsa) I don't think I would ever go with anything but the higher-end brands of exhaust again - and I'm pretty sure that neither Corsa or Borla offer mufflers alone, they only offer cat-back systems.

There are many levels of "stainless" steel. Exhaust systems have no need (in everyday use) to look "pretty", they just need to last as long as the vehicle. As such, exhaust systems tend to be made from lower "quality" stainless. I just helped my son replace the muffler on his 3 year old Ram, and while the pipes were not pristine/shiny, they certainly were not "rusty" either. Looked like typical exhaust stainless to me.

I know, it's "the internet", but according to http://www.boeschbuilt.com/#!2009-20...-exhaust/c1bbr
The Dodge stock truck exhaust is constructed from 409 stainless steel.
Likewise, according to http://www.pennstainless.com/stainle...ainless-steel/
Alloy 409...is commonly used in applications where appearance is a secondary quality to mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.

I guess you may be right. I couldn't find anything online that definitively stated, by Chrysler or a parts distributor, what the Ram OEM exhaust pipes were made of.

I did read a guy make this comment "Most current factory exhaust pipes are stainless steel, but they are a 400-series stainless which turns reddish brown. That is its protective coating. It is pretty durable, lasting many years. It is not 'rust', it is a protective oxide layer."

I do know mine looked like hell by the time I replaced them though - almost certainly had "rust" on them. I should take a pic of them when I get the chance.

the factory pipes are stainless as stated above... also.. all major exhaust manufactures sell mufflers only.. you just have to search for the right part number

Maybe most do, but I didn't find a muffler from Corsa sold individually.
