The dealer mentioned to me that I may have a tear on my 2014 dodge ram 4 wheel drive axle boot, whats involved in changing the boot and can you just change it?
Removing the axle and installing a new boot. You can do it yourself depending on your skill level and access to tools, etc. . There's plenty of videos on you tube.
If it's a front CV axle, yeah, take out the old one, stuff in the new one, and you are done. Replacements are fairly inexpensive.... (still more than just a boot and grease though.....) I MUCH prefer to just replace the whole thing..... spares me having to do the job again, if the CV joint was damaged while be ran without lube.
I am real curious what they are calling a boot.... You don't have independent rear suspension that I am aware of........ so, no boots back there..... Can you post a pic of the part in question?
