The lite should 'test' when you first turn the key on, before you start it..... Is it there?

Gotta be a switch on the shifter somewhere for that.... So far as I know, there is no axle disconnect on your truck, so, pull the lever, and its a 4x4. (independent front suspension, right?)

I’m 99% the 4x4 is engaging now after driving in circles in a parking lot and think/ hope it’s just the transfer case switch. It’s my first 4x4 that I bought a week ago so I’m pretty new to this

Don't use 4x4 on high traction surfaces....... tends to break things.
