Default 2013 Ram 1500 2WD - Ball Joints

New member here, after changing my brakes with a buddy last weekend I noticed a cracked upper ball joint boot. How hard is it to replace ball joints ? Do i need to replace the entire upper control arm just to replace the ball joint? If i change then myself will i need to put a jack under the calipers to support them from falling ? The truck only has 70k miles on it. Do i even need to replace the ball joint if the boot alone is cracked and there is no play?

thank you.

If there isn't any play, don't need to replace it. The cracked boot will accelerate wear though.... so, it will have to be done at some point.

Shouldn't be a problem.
