Default 3rd Instance of the P0307 Code

Hello all,
Newbie to the forum here and looking for advice.

I have a 2017 Ram 1500 2WD 5.7 22,00 miles.

On a long trip home yesterday, noticed the check engine light illuminated. Stopped at a Pep Boys (only place open on Sunday) to have the code checked to make sure it was okay to drive the remaining 600 miles. Code was P0307 #7 Cylinder misfire. I did not want to be stuck so I have them reset the code and I drove home. Light did not re illuminate on the rest of the trip. This is the 3rd time I have had the check engine light with the P0307 code. I noticed a higher fuel consumption on the 1st instance, no issues on the 2nd but this this time i noticed lower performance and higher fuel consumption. The dealership says there are no issues and has supposedly re-flashed the software in the PCM. What are my options? Truck is under warranty.

Is the lifter / cam going bad. If you still have some warranty left, push them to at least document you have the complaint. From everything I've been able to learn, it usually means that sooner or later a new cam & lifters will be needed.

Actually, they just replaced all my lifters 1000 miles ago. Had a slight ticking noise I thought to be an exhaust leak. Dropped it off and was told they had to replace all my lifters.

Having the dealership document this complaint is a very good recommendation.

In addition, I'd suggest you request the dealer do this, or do it yourself, but swap the spark plugs from cylinder 7 with another cylinder, then swap the coil from cylinder 7 with yet a different cylinder. If the misfire code follows either the spark plugs or the coil, then you probably have a bad part. If the code remains on cylinder 7 the issue is either mechanical with the cylinder (possibly the lifter/cam issue) or fuel injector. The fuel injector can be swapped with a different cylinder as well, but that's not as easy as the plugs and coil.

Good troubleshooting tips there. One thing to add to this is to check the connector that clips into the coil. I had a similar issue and narrowed it down to the connector. It's zip tied at the moment but I've order a replacement connector to splice into the harness.

Jasmine, it would be nice if you could offer help to those of us with out of warranty vehicles regarding this obvious design issue (both the bolts and the lifters).....

This is "fake posting" in my opinion. It's the 2nd post and the poster had multiple p0307 #7 CELs. So he says " I did not want to be stuck so I have them reset the code". Since he had the code before and never got stuck, why have them reset it this time?. Pretty fishy to me. Then he conveniently fails to mention that the whole top end was torn down before this last CEL.

I have never heard of a dealer replacing all lifters because of an engine tick.

Unless you own this truck and have dealt with the issues I have, I suggest you keep to yourself. You provided zero feedback or possible solutions to the issue. If you would like I can post the service records for you to see that the issues are real and that they did replace my lifters.

I own a 2017 ram big horn 1500, 4X4, CC, 3.21 and 5.7 hemi. My truck just turned 23,000 miles with a few thou miles towing. I took my truck in for lifter noise at around 1,500 miles and was told about the hemi tick. I asked to talk with the mechanic and did. He said that the noise he heard was lifter "start up noise" and the rest was a hemi tick. I asked for a "STAR" case and got one. The final answer after two visits was that it was normal and FCA would not cover the repair. The mechanic looked at me and said to me, "do you really want me to tear into the engine and then have the noise still be there?" So if they went ahead and did the lifter swap for you, yes I'd like you to put up the service records.

I apologize for jumping the gun, but I've been there.
