P0456 Code
Thanks. I plan on inspecting the lines this weekend. If I don't find anything I will look at the purge valve like the video showed. Then look at buying either an ESIM or Purge valve, if I don't see anything obvious.
if you want to diagnose it; I can walk you thru it up to the point of needing a smoke machine. you will need a scan tool that can view esim state.
if your are not going to diagnose it...I would start with replacing the esim. Its cheap and easy to replace. the esim has a fresh air filter (near the fuel filler neck inside the left rear fender) that should be replaced when you change the esim. if the filter is full of dirt; air cannot pass and the esim will not close.
if you want to check the purge valve...remove the vacuum hose and blow thru the purge valve. if air can pass thru...its nfg.
After you change the part and clear the code....it will take one week for the system to fail if the esim didn't fix it. If to cold...the monitor won't run at all. that is why this code never sets in winter.
dodge does have programming software updates to address p0456 small leak concerns.

Thanks for the info. I was going to ask today about that filter. I saw it and was wondering what it was for.
I tried the test where you blow through the purge valve last night. I didn't get any air through it, so it looks OK. I don't have a scanner that can look at ESIM states, just one to read codes. My plan is to look at it Saturday and see if I see any lines that look bad or loose. If I don't, I am going to replace the ESIM. Thanks for the information regarding the fresh air filter. I would not have known that.
What are these software updates about?

I have seen fuel tanks collapse due to block esim filters. anyone who drives on dirt roads needs to change them yearly.
the updates change the small leak test parameters. replace the esim and esim filter first, clear the codes and if they don't reset...don't worry about the flash. the update would cost 1 hour labour time.

I checked the hoses and lines today, and didn't see any loose, cracked, or worn. I ordered the ESIM and filter. Should be here in a week, and then I can install them.
I saw what looked like a module that the ESIM plugs into. It was near the ESIM. What is that? Could that be an issue?
