Can someone be kind enough to let me know what this connection is to, please?
I had a mouse under the hood for a bit and he partially chewed through the connection. I am also trying to diagnose some codes and do not know how this figures into the mix.
I took the screen shot from a youtuber replacing his MDS solenoids. I'm going to find some time to remove the intake manifold to get a better look at all of the wiring. I was able to see the wires going to this connection and could see the damage. I attached a pic of the damage as well.
I did some more looking and it looks like it’s the VVT solenoid. Would this in any way cause a misfire?
I have an intermittent misfire in #3. The MDS solenoid connections may also be damaged.
I’ve changed the plugs and coils. I also took all the injectors off and cleaned them.
I tried swapping the #3 coil to #1 and still have a misfire in #3.
I did the same thing with the plugs and the misfire is still in #3.
I also reset the computer after each step.
I am really hoping this isn’t a failed lifter leading to a damaged cam. I did not know that was a problem until in these HEMIs until I started chasing this down.
Yep, that solenoids is for the VVT. I don't think that would cause a single cylinder misfire though. It affects all cylinders equally.
May wanna do a compression test on a few cylinders, including number 3.... and see what the numbers look like, may have dropped a valve seat, or have a bad lifter.
Thanks for the advice. I did get a P0013 code. I thought it was the camshaft position sensor, but it turns out it is the VVT solenoid. My code reader said camshaft and a Google search came back with VVT solenoid.
I ordered a compression test kit today. I also ordered some intake manifold gaskets for when I put it back together. I was going to do the water pump and fan clutch while I have it taken apart. Is there any other preventative maintenance I should consider. It is a 2010 with 100K miles on it. Thanks.
I would be looking for chew marks going to # 3 though before I tear into it any more. I get tons of chewies under Hemi intakes. Apparently its a very cozy place to be.
I would also replace that short harness going to the VVT and the other solenoids. It connects to the main wiring harness behind the drivers side cylinder head...fat grey connector. They get heat stressed after so many years/miles and develop high resistance which can drive you nuts diagnosing them.
Ah, that's great info. I will check it out. I looked over all the wires I could see without taking parts off and didn't see anything. I will have to give them another look.
I ordered a new VVT solenoid, VVT solenoid connector, and intake gaskets. Is there anything else I would need for this job?
