CV axle seized to stub shaft - replace front diff??
URGENT
Good afternoon,
New here and looking for a second opinion. My local Ram dealer inspected my truck Friday and told me the front pass side outer CV boot was cracked and needed to replace it. Later in the day they called me back and said they could not replace the CV shaft as it has seized onto the stub shaft so then needed to replace the entire front diff. They told me they sourced a used diff assembly and the total bill would be $2,600 Canadian to replace, or $3,600 for a new front diff assembly. I went back to the dealership and crawled under the front and took the attached photos.
It's a 2016 Big Horn crew cab with the 3.0L diesel, has 133,000 kms on it, road use only.
Does it make any sense that a cracked outer boot (at wheel hub) could possibly result in the entire CV shaft assembly being seized onto the stub shaft and thus a full front diff replacement?
The dealer isn't smart enough to get that off, with all the equipment they have? Seriously????? Take it somewhere else. They apparently haven't got a clue.
