Default A/C & Radio Memory Problem

Hey all,

Back when I was twisting wrenches, I had all the diagnostic equipment we needed.

Now that I’ve been out of it quite a few years, I found myself creating a major sin. Throwing parts at a problem.

My 2012 Ram 3500 started losing radio station pre-sets and then started losing my A/C temp setting. Start it up and it goes to 69 degrees.

Here’s the embarrassing part.

I’ve thrown a new Dodge replacement radio at it and now a new Dodge seat memory module at it.

No change.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Where does memory get power from?

Check Fuse 11 in the TIPM. That one is IOD power for the a/c control head.

I know this sounds stupid but how old are the batteries? I was having radio problems and after installing new batteries all went back to normal. The batteries might show good but when you start truck it may take lots of power for starter and then memories get lost as there is not enough power to keep them alive when starting truck. Just an idea,,, Mine has been working great now for the last 6 months since installing the new battery

what outlawstorm said. This is classic symptoms of when a battery is getting close to failure.

Default Memory

I wish it was the batteries. I put a new set in a couple months ago and the problems been there a long time.

The fuse mentioned is good too.

To add to the story: I did take it to Dodge. The tech let me in the shop with him. He reflashed and told me the memory module was good. He wasn’t sure what to do next.

so, I changed the module anyway. Dam if he wasn’t right!

How long does it take to 'forget' what it has been told? Is it instantaneous? Run the truck, set everything, turn the truck off, back to square one? If that's the case, I would be looking at what provides power to the module when the ignition is off, and verify that circuit maintains power when you turn the ignition off.

Hey you, I checked #11 more closely.
Holy ****. That was it.
Definitely worked for the A/C. I reset all the radio pre-sets and I’ll see if they hold.

All this for a fuse! I’m sure we’ve all done something similar but this one is making me wonder if I should just get rid of all my tools. Talk about embarrassing.

THANK YOU

Well, Hey You nailed it on the A/C memory fuse but unsure if that also controls the radio memory.

If not, I’ll follow your advice.

Thank you.
