2010 ram 1500 low oil pressure issues
Hey guys,
I am new to this site so i hope i am posting in the correct place. I have a 2010 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with 99700 miles on it. I recently did the 100k mile service interval myself. This service interval i did the following:
replaced all spark plugs (iridium coated spark plugs)
changed the motor oil and filter (full synthetic 5w20 mobile 1)
changed transmission fluid
changed front and rear diff fluid
changed the transfer case fluid
did a coolant flush (I had the dealer do this)
repalced the thermostat
shortly after doing all the service my truck has had this random issue with low oil pressure while coming to a complete stop. The truck actually shuts off at a complete stop, but its random, it doesnt happen all the time. Whenever it shuts off, i put it in neutral and start it back up just fine. The oil pressure reads 51 whenever I first start it and let it idle. The oil pressure stays at about 55 when driving, but whenever it comes to a stop it drops to 25ish and sometimes to zero which shuts the engine off. There is no check engine light that comes on, however the low oil pressure light comes on. After doing a bunch of research on different forums this is what I have done to try and fix this issue:
cleaned throttle body
replaced oil and oil filter again (full synthetic 5w20 moible 1)
repalced cam shaft sensor
repalced crank shaft sensor
repalced oil pressure sensor
replaced the throttle body with a new one
I did this mod where you hook up a ground wire directly to the throttle body that everyone was swearing by
I even did a fuel treatment from lucas
The truck ran just fine before i did all the maintenance. At this point I am not sure what else to try.
I have read that the hemi's dont like the fram oil filters so ill replace it with a mopar one this weekend just to see if it makes any changes.
If anyone has ran into this issue or if anyone knows of something else i could try I am all ears!
P.S. I have read a couple of things that I do not think would be the problem, however, the problem started after repalcing the spark plugs. I read that some motors dont like the iridium coated plugs. I have also read that maybe the battery is going bad and it may cause something. I am not professional mechanic, but I am not sure how that would do anything different.

I would be tempted to replace the plugs again, with some standard coppers. The older trucks sure didn't like 'em.
Oil pressure may just be a symptom of the poor running..... Make it run right first, go from there.

So update on my ram, i replaced the oil filter and it didnt change a thing. I replaced the spark plugs again but this time with the cheap copper plugs from autozone and the truck has been working good so far. Ive only driven it a few times since replacing the plugs again but all seems well.
So i thought the problem was fixed but when i came to a complete stop today it randomly shut off again. I am not sure what else to try at this point. Its like im chasing a ghost.
Some folks have had success with running an additional ground wire for the throttle body..... worth a shot I suppose.

ive tried that already. The only other thing i can think of is maybe the oil pump is starting to go bad. Its just weird that this started to happen after i did all the maintenance.
Hey everyone,
just wanted to give an update on my truck. I replaced the spark plugs again but this time with the regular copper ones from autozone. After doing the job the truck shut off one other time due to low pressure (which was the day after i did the job). Its been a few months and not once has the truck shut off due to low oil pressure. At idle i was getting 18 psi with the iridium code in spark plugs, but now I’m getting 30 psi with the regular old copper spark plugs. I hope this helps someone out there with similar issues. Apparently the older trucks dont like the fancy iridium spark plugs.
