Default 1500 Brake Setup for Towing

Just bought our first tow trailer and they set us up with a wireless brake controller. Absolutely horrible! I heard people complain about them but first time driving it the brakes completely locked up on trailer every time I applied brake pedal. I did all of the correct troubleshooting (adjust pressure, sensitivity etc)

Anyway - how can I find out if my Dodge Ram has a brake setup for towing? I do have both the 3 pin and 7 pin connections on rear of truck

Truck is a 2019 1500 5.3l Hemi V8 Big Horn

Run your VIN here. If you have the tow package, you should have the connector for the brake controller.

Theoretically, you should be able to turn down the brake controller to the point the trailer brakes don't do anything at all.....

Thanks but I tried adjusting it …… I even disconnected the Bluetooth completely and still locked up … the only way I could get it to stop was to remove the brake controller

If the truck came from the factory with the 7 pin connector, the one for the trailer brake should be in there as well.

It did come with the round 7 pin connector but when I did the VIN search it showed nothing about a tow package or tow brake setup

Look for the connector under the dash. Dodge had a habit of not varying their wiring harnesses much, and even though you may not have some option or other, you still had the wiring for it. But, even on the trucks that you KNOW it is there, it can be fun to find. Might be tucked up and taped to some other section of the harness under the dash there. It *should* be on the drivers side at least.
