I am looking for a coolant system pressure test kit for the above truck. I found some "universal" kits but none identify a "RAM", just a variety of other autos. I don't have the truck here with me to measure the radiator neck/cap, but is the radiator cap seal like an odd dimension than other autos,, like I have to a "special" kit? Any advice or kit brands is appreciated. PS: I did order what I though would work but only to find out the day after I ordered it Amazon stated it would not fit my vehicle. I also ordered a "no spill type coolant funnel assembly" . If I had the truck here then i would just try all to see, but I ain't got it.

The 'generic' tester *should* have the right size fitting for your truck. I think those are pretty standard sized.....

 

Appreciate your input. Asking because I am going to need to drive 4 hours away to work on my son's truck and was praying that I had the proper test equipment (and tools) already on-hand. His truck is overheating and hasn't been driven since that day (two and half weeks ago) and I can't get down there until mid March. At least he has a friend willing to take him to and from work... Tks. again.

 

Worst case, most of the big chain auto parts stores have a rent-a-tool program......

 

10-4. Tks again. Unfortunately my son isn't "mechanically inclined" and doesn't have the funds to put the truck in a repair shop. He did find a friend to help him out somewhat. He found a pin hole leak in a tubing that that he replaced and also replaced the t-stat and temperature sensor, but still no workie. I told him I got some "old man checks" that I will do in order to find the problem as well as fix it Good Lord willing that is)!! However, if I run up a stump I know I can come back to this site for advice and help!!!

 

Has he checked his oil????? Hopefully, he didn't smoke a head gasket.....

 

No he hasn't and I hope it isn't anything serious (costly) as well. . I told him to just leave it alone till I get there. I'm not an auto mechanic but have worked on a few myself since I was a teenager (like uh many years ago) so it's not like I'm going in there blind.

 

Pretty sure it was still horse and buggy when I was a teen.

 

I watch those kinda of shows!! Never figured out why the movie producers always made the horses run so darn fast!!!
I've worked on car, truck, lawn mower, two cycle, boat motors, etc. . Had to research and study a lot on my own due to the fact I went to college to be an electrician. I just remembered my first "experience" if you will. As a young teenager fixing to be of driving age, my dad said "Son, my truck needs the water pump replaced. Let me know if you have any questions or when your done". I was like Heck Yeah and very eager to prove I could do it. Then I got introduced to an ease out kit, well at least that's what I called it anyway!!! Lol!!! But, one learns from his mistakes! It was a 1972 Chevrolet Cheyenne w/350 engine.

 

I had a couple of those back in the day. 4x4's at that. Bought another truck for the 454 that was in it, and dropped it in the better of the two. THAT was a FUN truck.

I didn't take any auto mech courses till I had been working in the field already for a few years. Learned by necessity. I had a car, but, couldn't afford to pay someone else to work on it, so, learned by doing. I've made mistakes along the way, but, only made them once.
