Hey everyone,

Let's cut to the chase:
I have a 2012 ram 1500 with the 5.7 hemi in it. Back in August/September i was having intermittent power failure. I concluded that it was a bad relay. I swapped the fuel pump, performed the relay bypass using the Vertical Visions bypass, and changed out the throttle body. Everything was working great until recently. Now I have an irregular chirping sound that I can here in the engine bay but also the exhaust and I also have the power failure randomly. What's weird about losing power is that all I have to do to reset the code is let off the gas and then get back on it and the power failure symbol goes away.

Yes it is.

 

Isn't that whining about the electronic throttle?? Two parts to that, TPS, and it's controller, and the pedal position sensor. Given it starts working properly if you let off the gas, and step on it again, I would suspect the sensor.

 

I wouldn't know. I just swapped my throttle body, but it being the sensor might make sense.
as far as the whining goes, it's not necessarily a whine. More like a chirping. More pronounced than a squeak or whine. And much more brief and irregular.

 

Take off the belt, run the engine a BIT, see if the chirp is gone. A bit of dirt in the groves on the belt is all it takes for it to be noisy.

 

I do live out in the permian, so that makes sense. I'll see what happens when i remove the belt and change out the pedal position sensor.

 

Assuming the 2012 uses an electronic throttle/throttle-by-wire, did you calibrate the new throttle after replacing it?

Yes I did.
I plan on doing it again once I replace pedal sensor.

 

not to jump on the band wagon, but if the belt idea doesn't pan out favorably for you I would suspect a cam or lifter failure. My 06 was chirping, multiple weak cylinder and several collapsed lifters, did not dig deep enough to verify if there was cam failure, however i did have metal in the pan so something serious was inevitable to find I just didn't look deep enough to find out what.
