IT'S A 10HP/30LB DIFFERENCE.

Lmao.

318:http://dodgeram.org/tech/gas/specs/5_2v8.htm
360:http://dodgeram.org/tech/gas/specs/5_9v8.htm

The 318 is better. Look how it holds the torque curve longer. The 360's torque peaks at 2000 RPM, then drops rapidly starting at 2500 RPM

I think thegoldpro is one of those guys that just because it says 360 instead of 318 it is going to be like the difference of a viper to a neon haha.

And I am definitely not going to agree that the 318 is BETTER... its more reliable, it can work up at the higher rpm range a little better, but not much. again, both engines are for different uses, now thegoldpro, doesnt use his, he just wants to say "I have the 360 therefore I am better" and in his ignorance he will keep saying that. The difference is is that I can do everything that he does in his 360 just as easily as him, and save gas and engine wear and tear at the same time.

Looking at the graphs, it appears that the 360 hits 300 ft lbs at about 1900 RPM's and drops below it at about 3800 or so. The 318 Peaks at 300. The 360 may have a sharper peak to it's torque curve, but it remains at or above the 318's max for 1900 RPM's.

That's just my observation. I'm not saying the 360 is better than the 318, or vice versa. It's just what I took away from studying the diagrams. It's up to individual truck owners to decide if the higher torque is worth losing about 2mpg. Calling each other's trucks "crap" just because they have a smaller (or larger, more fuel inefficient) engine is silly. I say "fuel inefficient" because they're both gas hogs no matter how you look at it, it's just a matter of degree.

I just thought I'd throw that out there...

Not sure what charts you're looking at, the ones I'm looking at show both engines drop torque after 3000 RPM, and both lose the same amount of torque (roughly) between 3000 and 4000 RPM. Its not until after 4000 RPM that the 5.9L drops faster than the 5.2L.

Like 98cherryram said, the 5.2L can hold its torque a little better at high RPMs.

Both engines are so similar though, one is not going to be any great deal better than the other. I like my 5.9L, I think it has more grunt to it than the 5.2L I had in the Dakota I owned prior to this truck. However, that is my opinion, my observation.

I'm married. I do that whenever I want.

Unless I'm at sea.
