You can scroll through the menu and see how many tunes are left. SCT only allows 5 tunes(vehicles) before it's no good. Atleast that is how they used to be when I owned one in 2008.
You should be able to use the USB plug or power plug to view this screen. I believe it's on the serial number screen???

Does this mean that you can only change the tune on your truck 5 times before replacing the tuner?

Not at all. What it means is that you can only change the vehicle itself five times. (And I thought it was three anyway? Maybe it has changed.) That way I can't tune a buddy's 2001 Ram for $100, pay $50 and tell Sean (hemifever) or another SCT tuner guy that I bought a different truck, and then do that to another truck, and another, and so on.

$50 is Sean's cost when you switch (buy) vehicles and want to tune that one instead.

What years and engine sizes will this work for?
