Just finished installing my amps and ran the ground wire to the seat frame, bolting the wire connector to the stud on the seat frame where the fold out floor mounted. I sanded the paint off and figured the four seat bolts would have to be a sufficient ground. Fat chance. I've got noise up the gazoo. Where are you guys grounding to? Thanks.

 

Thats where mine is grounded. Check your headunit ground.

 

My head unit is grounded via the factory wiring harness using an aftermarket harness adapter. I can pull the head unit out and make sure the wire connector hasn't come loose, but short of that I'm not sure how I'd confirm if it's a solid ground or not. I've got a fairly loud hum with the truck off and volume at zero. Starting the engine results in the engine noise. My power cable is routed on the driver's side and RCA cables on the passenger side. It's puzzling.

 

Take the ground wire loose from the amp , then use a voltmeter on Ohms to check the resistance touch the leads together and get a reading (normally like .01 Ohm) Then touch one to the seatbolt and the other to the wire , subtract the two readings and thats the resistance ... The lower the better

You could have a ground loop issue and need an Isolator too

 

i alwasy runned my power wire away from my rca's,may be gettin some nosie that way,but like alot of ppl i grounded my amp to the seat bolts,ive alway did that an never had a prob,hope you figure it out

 

If its with the engine on it is more than likely alternator whine.

 

also check your spark plug wires. this can cause a whine through the engine, but the alternater is a large possibility of the sound, if you rev your motor and the sound gets louder it's not your radio or ground.

 

Factory ground isn't always a good path for grounding your headunit. Try cutting the ground wire going to the factory harness and ground it to the chassis under the dash somewhere.
