Default Are Kicker amps well built these days?

I toasted the MTX 6500D mono amp I use in my Ram. Now I want to replace it and was strolling thru the Circuit City website to get an idea of what's what for new models. I see the CC doesn't sell Audiobahn anymore.

I did however notice that some of the Kicker amps were higher priced. Then I started reading up on their RMS outputs.

My question is, have the Kicker amps gone up in quality? Is it a durable amp these days? I remember way back that buying Kicker was like buying a Kmart amp. Even on Ebay I see their prices are right up there.

I was going to buy another MTX but decided to look around a little. I would like 800-900 watts RMS.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Good luck with ALL our rides.

kicker was never like buying a kmart amp,to me they wasnt, ive had 2 of there newer style amps an they were built good a, had some impressive numbers on the birth sheet, the 120 2 channel for my doors was around 290 watts an the 700 5 channel was 700 on the sub side an90 watts by 4 on the four channel side, but i have seen the 700.5 channel be like 410 on the sub an 55 on each four channel ever one is alwyas different, but there price is kinda high, but there amps are alot better than the mtx brand, good luck finding a amp

Any thoughts on the Alpines? I was lookin at the MRP-M850. I kinda want to stay with that compact, square shape type amp too.

Again, I thank you all for your opinions.

Good luck with all our Rides.

alpines are wonderful amps... but they requre a bit of extra fine tuning to get them perfect. The Kickers are the best option though. Not only will it continue to be a reliable amp, they almost always exceed rated power (just look at their birth sheet) Also each Kicker Amp is hand inspected on a bench test to guarantee that it works when it leaves the factory, so if you have a problem they will know what has happend with them... Ive only used a Kicker once in an install and i loved every second of hooking it up and tuning it... Very easy to install and great to tune.

Another option i would reccomend is Maxxsonics products. Hifonics and Autotek primarily. I have a 1600w Brutus Mono block and it almost never gets hot under load... Great Amp and looks great as well as does rated power. Less money than a Kicker too...

Just my 2 cents

Kicker has always made great stuff. We still have a couple ZR1000's sitting around here from way back, and those amps kicked ***! My friend/co-worker still runs all ZR stuff in his car. The Impulse stuff had a little to be desired, but now they don't have a "crappy" line of products anymore, they are all very impressive.

Jeepers. I dont know about the 05 and up Kicker amps. I totally love the old stuff. All the old stuff was rock solid, but it seams to me that quality of parts in their amps has gone down. I know a lot of their guys left and started Exile and their stuff is descent, but seriously I would stay with the real big names. Although for cheap I do like Alpine. But in my truck I run the Audison LRX 6.9k and Hertz Hi Energy speakers. The amp is amazing. Really small package for the power. And the speakers....well they are almost good enough to be used without a sub.....But I like my bass......

I say as an improvement over stock, and for a 'loud' sound system, KICKER is still great, but for SQ I would say that their quality has gone to the point where getting good SQ is prob not possible...........

Sorry for the ramblings
