I agree withyour opinion on the wire100%. And I agree with your opinion that real life and paper are 2 different things, but if you don't have enough power, you don't have enough power. Simple as that. How many batteries are you running in the cadillac? I've found that even with an alt. that's extremely under par, with 1 battery the voltage will drop almost immediatly below low voltage cut. Just adding a second battery stabilizes the voltage enough to keep it above cut-out continuously. But it doesnt dismiss the fact that the charging system is inadequite. Keep in mind also, different vehicle manufacturers may have better or worse alternators stock too.

If you ran 4000W RMS continous in a ram, I can guarantee it would not hold up. I did a Ram with a 3000.1 and 2 800.4's with 3 Optima Yellow tops and a 35 farad capacitor and it didn't stand a chance. Less than a minute idling and the amps would go into low voltage. A 250A alt. took care of it for the most part.

ok, i see what you guys mean, 'cause when i idled tonight and turned up a certain bass song to 50 on my deck, my tach for the voltage dropped waayyyy down (below the usual 14.8 volts...lol...then the subs start cutting in andout...so in a few days..i'll be ordering a new HO alternator...any suggestions of how big i'll need? i'll be running two 55 watt halogen off road lights and two other lights for fog lights, my car audio system and my truck [sm=smiley17.gif]. and any idea if i did any extreme damage to the amp or subs? so i can get them replaced if needed. I also heard Excessive Amperage builds some badass HO alternators (you can also get it powdered coated and buy some heavier guage wire for CHEAP )? or the Mean-Green HO alternator...? I don't want to spend more than$550 to $600shipped + installed. (So i'll be eventually be putting in a HO Alternator...and some 0 Guage wire for the big 3 upgrade+ a Yellow top optima to handle the load )

I'd do a yellow top and the big 3 before doing an alt. Really don't see the point of spending $350+ for a new alt if you you can only spend $150.

How does a yellowtop fix a low voltage problem? He would still need a way to charge it if his factory alternator isn't doing the job.

More capactity, his stock alt would charge it, big 3 and 0 gauge to the batteries would charge it fine.

I would look into an Excessive Amperage HO Alt for your truck around a 200 will be fine for the current install but definitely go for the 250 if you pay the extra dough... and if u think that its too much money... sell that cap of yours... its a detriment onto your system... The only time you need caps are if you are running your system for competition Bass Races and thats just a temporary solution most of the time... Really and truely... Sell back the cap for whatever you paid for it and do this... Upgrade your wires to at least 4 guage from chassis to ground battery to harness... check all your grounds and make sure that those CC guys actually stripped and cleaned the ground points (Probably didnt) and get a new Alt... Trust me it will help you out much more than that Cap does... Also if you keep running that amp like that u might destroy it with power dips like that. Cheapest solution... Get rid of the Cap... Most expensive ... Do the Big 3!
