radar detecter through radio?

[align=left]Ok, so I have a small problem. Or rather, 2 small problems. I have a radar detecter with a busted speaker, but the headphone jack on it works. So, I want to wire it up to play through the speakers on my truck. My plan is to wire up a little pcb or something so that when the radar detecter goes off, the circiut turns off the signal from the radio to one of the speakers. This will be done pre-amp, since if I wired it post amp, the amplifier wouldnt do anything for the signal from my radar detecter. My head unit doesnt have anything fancy to do this built in, so making a circuit is pretty much my only option.
So, if anyone knows how I would wire this, please let me know.
If anyone knows any online resources to help me figure this out on my own, let me know. My searches on google havent turned up anything so far, so all I have so far is a transister and a diode, and I know this wont work, because even the meager 18w that my alpine puts out will pop most transisters.
That would be the second small problem :P

why dont you just buy a cheap 3" speaker from radio shack or something and wire it to that. or even a cheap tweeter. im sure you can find a place to mount it

I *could* just get a little speaker, but then I'd have to turn it way up to hear it over my radio :P I like to listen to my music kinda loud...
'sides, the way I wanted to do it would look so much cleaner.
And the phone thing, would work if my radar detecter were bluetooth, but it's not.

*shrug* even a new radar detecter wouldnt be loud enough to hear over the radio.
I bought a little amplified speaker from radioshack and mounted it on the B pillar near the roof of the truck. I'm working on making a smaller fiberglass case to mount it in so it doesnt stick out as far. As it is, it sits dangerously close to my head

well radar detetors are not made to be heard over super loud systems. you have to give one way or another. mount your speaker near the tranny hump or under the dash pointed toward you. or turn down your radio.
the way you want to do it is creating more work than is needed IMO.
