Default Anyone run smaller subs (8's or one 10) in their Ram?

I am finally getting my front speakers/tweeters and rear speakers replaced in my 99 Ram. After that I may look into getting a small sub setup. I want tight, punchy type bass not low rumbling bass. I would think that two 8's might be better but I almost never see a system with 8's in it. Would one 10 be the way to go?
Suggestions on brand of sub and amp are also welcomed.

If you have a quad cab, look for pre-manufactured boxes for under the rear seats, i believe they make boxes for 8" and 10" subs.

Here is a link to a box setup that should hold two 10" subs

As for brand, I like JL Audio and Kicker on the smaller subs.

The amp for something like that should be fairly inexpensive. I've had JBL, Planet Audio, and a few other amps for smaller low wattage subs (usually all you can fit in a thin box like that) and i liked the JBL amp i had the best.

I'm leaning towards getting just one 10" now. Two 10's seems a little more than I want right now.

Anyone know a pre-fab box for one 10?

The local shop can build one but I'd like to see how much I can get one for online.

Also, is it generally better to down fire or up fire the sub?

yeah, I think you may be right.

I just have this urge to do a system with 8's. Would 3/4 eights hit really clean and tight?
Not even sure I could get that many under the rear seat much less an amp to push them.

If you aren't really looking for big sound from multiple large speakers, check out some free/open air subs. They don't require a true box and if you just mount them with a frame, that gives them a small amount of breathing space you might achieve the sound you are looking for.

Yes..the 8's would sound good. My buddy is about to do 6 or 8 8's.

i'd go with the single 10". the best sq set ups use a single good high quality sub.. jl, mtx, kicker something of the like. a good amplifier pushing at least the rms rating for the subs if not more and a good sealed box or ported if you want. i'd say sealed since you want the punchy hard bass. a favorite of mine is the mtx thunder round 4500 series or a jl w1 or w3

I am about to instal 2 Infinity perfects. I am taking them out of my mustang that I just sold. I origonally had 2 10" JL w3v3's but honestly, the infinity subs were louder, cleaner and had more range. The punch was about the same though. I opted for the 2-10's because I wanted clarity and punchy bass. Not into all that rap crap. Those 2-10's were perfect!
Whatever you decide to go with, you must have a sealed enclosure for accurate tight punchy clean bass! The sealed boxes aren't as "loud" per say, but overall clarity is way better. The porting make the sub drone and gives it more range. Same with the bandpass enclosures, much more drone and range. The free air subs are uselss IMO. They will never hit tight bass. They are very low toned hitting drawn out bass tones that hit an hour after the musical note is played...lol 8's are really tiny compared to 10's even. You should beable to fit 4-8's easily. They obly use up .25-.40cu/ft each. Or you can go with just a single 8. The JL 8" sub. It's a wrecking ball....lol You'd never believe it was an 8, however I think the mounting depth is too much. Check on it though
