i was searching through some threads about speaker issues, but most people wanted to replace stock with aftermarket. my issue is that the bass works in the two doors, but thats it! the only music i get is from the tweets in the dash. what in the world happened to the sound coming from the door speakers? i don't listen to my music loud, maybe turn it up to 20, but i fear that i will bust my tweets if i go any higher. does anyone know what may be the issue? i don't think the speakers are cutting out b/c i hear the bass and nothing else. the bass is so strong that it vibrates my dang window switch and gets on my nerves...any help or guidance would be appreciated. it is 03 1500 laramie edition...

 

I assume that you have the infinity sound system? In that case it would make sense. The bigger door speakers are giving your base and the front smaller ones are giving your highs. If they sound to loud turn the treble down a little. It is really hard to blow a tweeter. I dont have the system so i'm not sure, but it sounds like its working fine.

 

Yes it is the infinity system. I figured I would still get some music out of the front door speakers. I know on my 01 I had music coming out of the door speakers and the tweeters in the a-pillar. But i'll check the setup with the bass, fade, etc. tomorrow. I was hoping there was an issue because it feels really awkward with no music from the side.

on a side note, is there anyway to stop the vibration that is coming with the switch panel vibrating against the door panel? the only way I have got it to stop is to put my had pn the switches and press down on the plastic piece. i would prefer a more permanent fix.

 

I just replaced the door speakers in mine. The older models are going to have issues with the door speakers. Might as well replace them with some inexpensive 6x9's since you don't listen loud.

 

Infinity system only sends bass to the doors, those speakers are a 6x9 sub in the door. If you replace them w/ a 2 or 3 way 6x9, you'll still only get bass. You could try to dynamat or something similar around the speaker to reduce the rattle.

 

It's the amplifiers filtering that cuts off frequeincies above a certain point. The amp limits the range from 65hz-1500hz(bass-low midrange) or there abouts to the door speakers and has the upper midranges up in the dash filtered at around 1500-20,000hz. They are considered midranges up in the dash, not really tweeters although tweeter sound does come from them. True tweeters are filtered above 5,000hz and don't play anything lower and are no larger than 3/4"-1" on average. Those speakers up in the dash are 3.5" mids. I suppose you could call them coaxials.

The reason the Infinity stereo is designed this way is because Component systems produce cleaner and more realistic sounds and can handle more power than coaxials.
Component essentially means divided or seperate woofer, midrange/tweeter
Coaxial means combined woofer/tweeter
Any high quality speaker system will be of Component and not coaxial. Woofers that are coaxial have limited bass because there is a big hold in the middle for the tweeter pod. Plus, tweeter sounds are not suppose to come from the floor, but rather at ear or above ear level. This is something sound competition judges are very strict when they grade cars. They look for the vocals that you cannot reach no mattter how high you grab. it's very complex and thats the quickest description i can give.
Replacing the door speakers will result in the same frequencies you are experiencing now. No upper midrange and tweeter sounds.

 

thanks for the clarification on the "issue" that i was having. at least i don't have a problem, i guess i was not use to this setup. well i suppose my only issue is the switch panel vibrating, i will have to insulate it this week. thanks again.

 

Keep in mind also those of us (like myself) who went from the OEM Infinity system to aftermarket not only replaced the door speakers but also the amp. No sense is adding half a custom system.
