this looks like an awsome piece of equipment. i'm REALLY curious to hear what difference it makes in sound quality on an Infinity system in a Ram Quad.

It does skip on occasion, usually not too bad though. I'm sure you can do better than JVC, so far the only Head Units I've had personally are Jenson, JVC Arsenal and Kenwood Excelon. Out of the three the Jenson was utter crap, the two JVC Arsenal's I've had were both very nice and good bargains apart from the skipping you mentioned. The Kenwood was a huge let-down for me, especially with what I paid for it I was extremely unimpressed. With any luck I'll be getting an Alpine for the Dak soon.
Many companies will NOT warranty a product if sold online or by an un-authorized dealer. So if an online company selling one of these roducts offers a warranty, they are taking the loss themselves because the company will not honor any of it, so getting them to actual go on their word and honor a product that you bought from them might be a struggle later on.
Also, a lot of companies sell what's considered "B Stock", or refurbished equipment. It's equipment that's either been repaired by an individual or the company themselves. These might be just fine, especially if they were refurbished from a manufacturer, but you always have the fact that that product, at one point in time was damaged. It's like buying a car from a dealership that's been totalled in the past and they don't tell you about it.
The prices are cheaper because your not buying the knowledge, factory warranty,or support you would get from buying from a real dealer. If something goes wrong you're basically on your own.
