HELP! No Sound - new stereo install
Matt I would love it if a harness would do the trick - i have connected my harness and i have no sound - my connections are soldered and good - i have rewired the blue/white wire to make sure that connection is good - one of the post I have read indicates that on 2002-2004 the amp turns on with the blue/white wire, but on 2005 they use a computer bus, so you are SOL is you want to turn on that amp with a aftermarket head unit - I would love it if someone told me otherwise - right now it looks like this weekend im going to work on bypassing the amp - sucks but from my reading - it looks like i have no other option -
please correct me if i am wrong - also - yes im going to have to use the headunit to power all 7 speakers - worst case scenario i guess i may blow a front speaker - but i'll replace that if it happens - any other thoughts on the negatives dont have the money or the patience to mess with replacing the factory amp with an aftermarket one - i have gone a week with no sound , i hooked up my amp - subs, but got a big hole in my dash - im very anxious for some sound, I hope bypassing the amp is smooth -
TIA, Boyd

well boyd98 i have the same problem i found the wiring diagrams on a website, I think i have figured out the problem. From the looks of it the amp is powered threw the radio, the amp does have a 12v going to it, but the dodge harness has another 12v going to it aswell. the only one that provides power to the amp is the 12v output off the stock radio. SO from what ive gathered what we have to do is accually attach this other 12v wire to the constant feed and bingo it will work. The wire that gives the amp power is a DG wire, now what im going to do to be safe is hook it to my Ignition switch wire so when the car is off i know that the amp is off. it looks like we could hook it to a constant 12v sorce, but i rahter not just to be safe. This wire that is the ignition switch is PK/YL so we need to attach the PK/YL to the DG wire and the color that matches the wiring harness you have for the ignition switch. There is also a WT/VT wire that is labeled PCI BUS that goes from the radio to the amp, i have no idea what it is, but in a computer it connects two things together, so my guess would be that it is the remote turn on. the only other wires that go into the amp are speaker wires.
I havent done this yet and will NOT confirm it till i try it. Im going to include where i got the schematic diagrams so you can look and see if i am right or wrong (ive never read these things before) Would be great if someone else looked at it and agreed or disagreed so i dont blow my ram up or break somthing im not suposed to. Plus i still cant figure out what some of the abbreviations are for the wire colors.
You can get the schematic here http://www.hemitruckclub.com/04manual/18616-dr-body_sgmldiag.pdf[/color]
The accual page you need to go to is page 606. This is the scematic for the premium audio system the wiring for the basic is on page 607.
Please respond with your findings aswell. I dont think reading a scematic and pluging somthing where its not suposed to go is covered in my warrenty. so for that reason i shall check back here in the morning to verify then try it.

thx everybody - i installed my system yesterday - im gonna do a write up on what i did probably on thurs (i go back to work thurs) - just in case anyone else is looking for some advice -
bottom line - you can not use the factory amp in the later 04 or 05's. It turns on with a PCI Bus connection - which an aftermarket radio does not provide - why dodge ****ed us all and decided to go this route i dont know, but long story short its a pain in the ***-
thx again, and i hope my write up will help - if anyone has any specific questions in between now and thurs , pm me-

well after trying all that stuff i posted it still didnt work so i said f*ck it and rewired the whole stereo system, i made it easy so when i get my amps i can just plug it in and go. very upsetting that that PCI bus thing isnt what we need or our aftermarket stereos cant send the propor singmal to the amp. But after spending 5 hours rewiring and 6 busted knuckles later the stereo is about 2 times louder than the crappy infinity stock bullsh*t. Im quite happy with replacing my stereo.
Hey boyd, how did you run the speaker wires threw your doors? front and rear. wondering if there is an easier way than that whick i did it.
If any one has any questions on how i rewired, pm me ill be happy to help you out.
Theres nothing better than blasting Korn: Got the life in a apartment complex of of mostly cristians, while installing a stereo.

i probably didnt do it as nice as you - i just wired up 4 speakers instead of 7 - cuz i didnt have the money for the extra amp - - im with you on the busted knuckles - my hands are tore up
anyway - i didnt run the wires through the doors - i actually removed the factory amp - after removing the factory amp - i cut the harness off and and just ran speaker wire from the new head unit and spliced them
sounds great though even though its only four speakers
i got that dvd jvc headunit - 2 x 10in subs 400watt RMS total MTX - replaced the front door speakers with infiniti reference series - sounds nice - im happy with it, may eventually buy another amp and hook up the other 3 speakers

cool, i figured i would have to rerun the speaker wire anyway. Im going to do kicker ss series all around on the mids, then 2 S12l7s, 2 ohm version under the back seat and run that all with a sx1200.1 on the subs and a sx650.6 for the mids. Had this in my wrangler and blew the 3 windows out of the hard top. i promptly switched to the rag top. That is the effect im going for in the truck. You will feel me coming before you see me.
Wheres a good place to mount amps in a quad cab? i heard behind the back bench but i rahter not cut anything. will they fit back there with no cutting?

be careful.. If you install a high end cd player with a built in amp, you will burn the outputs on the headunit up if you dont bypass the factory amp ahead of time. The player will come on, but no sound.. Its toasted..
2001 intrepid radio turns on cd player works it seems it finds radio stations, clock works but no sound at all from any speaker i have spent more than four hours looking for an answer but nothing i cant afford to buy a new stereo plx help
You do understand that 1) this is a Dodge Ram portion of the forum 2) this thread is very very old and 3) even if we wanted to help we cant because you didnt give enough info like if it is an OEM headunit, after market, straight wired to the speakers in the doors, wired to any amps or when it last worked (if ever).
Try starting a thread in the right place and maybe some guys with some Intrepid, LHS, Visions and Concordes can help.
