Two 15's
ORIGINAL: HighDuke1911
why not just put in 1 15 with a perfect sized box with a greatly matched amp which would sound way good than use up a buttload of space with 2 15's and paying a lot more for box and amp which you probably would get not too good of a matched box? wow, i just got back from english class and i'm making run-on sentences... lol.

I could try to sell the box... hm... sell the dual, buy one single, then once I get the Blazer running buy another single for it and I'll have killed too birds with one stone. Still leaves and issue with the current amp, and finding the money for a new one. Bah. Damned good idea though.
By the way in no way is Draw on ur Alternator related to the subwoofers potential... U have to go by what the rating is on the amp... so if u are running a class D mono amp that has 1600w of powwer capablilites and you run it at that it will draw 160 amps of current full tilt Gain all the way up... If u want some help PM me or continue on in this thread.
The main concern wasn't whether it will effect the quality of the sound from the subwoofer, it was whether the alternator could continue to produce enough amperage to keep the car charged and going without much of a hitch.
well see that again has to do whith how many amps ur car ALT is rated at... Ur car will opperate still but u are going to do damage to your ALT over long periods of time... I wouldnt reccoment running an amp at 1600watts on a stock alt... Personally there are a few things u need to do.... U need to upgrade your wireing to the battery (both power and ground to chassis to at least 4 guage preferably 2 or 0 guage wire) upgrade your alternator to a High Output and also to put a new Deep cycle battery in like an Optima or even the big Die Hard gold series are awesome. If you want to do it the cheap way by all means dont upgrade but if u dont upgrade u might be stuck on the side of the road somewhere or stranded in a parking lot without any power to ur car. If you spend the extra money and get the right stuff i promise you u wont be dissapointed... The advantages of upgrading will help your amp be provided with quality strong continuous power to really make those subs go! If you underpower them they will start to Clip and then become damaged because of that.
Again, thanks for the input.
Tell me though, wouldn't alternator failure and battery failure both be considered a hitch? Aye, I thought so too.
Also, I know that it has to do with how many amps the stock alternator is rated for, and I know long term usage could damage it. See, that was already posted earlier in the thread by habeba. "It should be able to handle it and keep your battery charged atleast for a while, but eventually I think it will kill the alt if you have it cranked all the time."
Sorry if I seem rude, I just hate it when people don't read a thread and come in posting answers to unasked questions and simply restated everything someone else has said.

I ran and still have my stock 90 amp alternator by nippon denso I will be changing this build but it has handled my system rather well and I have better than 13,000 watts and jammed it all the time. If you can afford a bigger alt they will help the overall performnce of not only the vehicle but the sound system as well will be cleaner and more efficient.
