2003 QC new HU question...
I know this has probably been discussed before, but I've read and been told conflicting stories...
i'm about to upgrade to a aftermarket head unit, i have a 2003 ram 1500 QC with Infinity sound. My question is, since i ordered my HU from a online place, they are sending me the wire harness and mounting bracket, can i just install it with what they have provided?
I have been told about a "amp" in the glove box that needs to be bypassed or stripping out the entire system and just running wires with new speakers.....then i was told about some wire kit or harness that bypasses the amp????
i'm really confused, any help would be appreciated. [

from my understanding/reading, you will need to bypass the amp or you'll speakers will sound like garbage. Run new wires from the HU to the speakers. Is there a 7th speaker? Last thing I remember was that 7th speaker gets ignored.
As far as a bypass adapter, I do not know. If there is, I would assume you'd have to hook it up to the inputs/outputs of the amp, in which can become it's own mess.
Or, just hook up your new HU and test it out without any changes to the amp[8D].

NO. You don't need to bypass the infinity system what so ever. It can be done later on if you decide to change speakers. It's absolutely not necessary on our trucks. I ran mine witht he factory amp for a long time. And the harness will be the same harness whether it's amplified or not, so the one they send will work. You just have to remember to hook up the blue wire on the new harness to the remote turn on wire on your new headunit. This is the factory amplifier turn on wire. If you don't hook this up you'll get no sound.
Other than that hook it up like a regular headunit in any other vehicle and you will be just fine
