I just think they should maybe put it on hold for a few years and come back with a totally redesigned one.

Right now it looks like 2009 will be the last year for the Viper.

The problem there, is in a few years there may not be a Chyrsler left to bring it back. I am all for doing whatever it takes to save the company, even if it meansgetting rid of the viper.

I agree we need to put our money in our bread and butter cars, not fluff and stuff. I have been told many times over the years chrysler doesn't make a dime on the viper. In most cases its actually sold at a loss.

Vipers still draw attention [maybe that is a reason to kill it off] but if they do get rid of it I would like to see a modern version of the Stealth to replace it. Something along the lines of the Corvette in price and performance. [actually I would like to see lower price and better performance]

Ban him! The new Viper is the most impressive thing Dodge has ever came up with after the Gen II Viper. It's never going to happen people, Cerebus would have gotten rid of it when they were looking over Mopar, the Caliberand the Magnum. What they should be doing is reviewing the new Squari-vanthen toss that. With the Stealth, I agree it would be nice to see a decent sports car around, then again Dodge would find a way to turn it into an SUV most likely or people would complain that it doesn't get 30 something mpg with a V6.

And this isn't about sales figures, the amount of profit globally to use the Viper's trademark has got to be bringing in a good amount of cash alone. From the VCA, to Viper apparel, and down to match box Vipers.

If it turns a profit, why kill it?

That being said, no one buys a Malibu because 'the same company makes the Corvette.'

I've severely doubted this notion of 'halo cars' effect on sales of prosaic models - it seems like a myth engendered by fanboy-ism - and 99% of that is coming from people who will never own a Viper.

I'm a guy who makes less in a year than the Viper costs. FWIW, My first car was a 65 Coronet, my second car was a 84 Horizon, my third car was an 81 New Yorker Fifth Ave..... I love that my favorite car company has the biggest and baddest. But, if the choice is disassemble the company and sale off the assets or continue Chrysler without the beast: keep Chrysler going. I have bought 4 new Dodges over the years and countless used Chrycos. My dad's first car was a 33 Plymouth he bought in 1945 when he was 17. My oldest brother bought a brand new first year Plymouth Barracuda the year he graduated high school. Point is Chrysler is in my DNA. The Viper is in my dreams. I'll take the reality of my 2003 Neon or whatever we buy next, even if it means fighting back tears at the thought of losing braggin rights.
